GTM Partners' research found that 57% of companies still didn't build enough pipeline as they cut back hard on marketing spend (without a counter strategy). Things are slow. Deals stalling, layoffs, it's not necessarily getting brighter. But I heard a contrary opinion from Hannah Ajikawo yesterday She shared that there are companies out there spending big money to figure: ✅ how to make best use of AI ✅ re-structure their sales organizations, enable & train them ✅ opening their eyes to "new" methodologies like MEDPICC ✅ trying out new tools for go-to-market 👉 I'm curious to get more perspectives on this: ❓how are you observing the latest economic environment? ❓are they signs of recovery? ❓which sectors are spending money and which ones are bit more frugal? Rest and vest is dead. The new paradigm in tech? Rest, vest, and divest. Look, I’m not your manager. - Phone it in at work. - Do the bare minimum. - I don’t care. But I do care how you’re managing your stock compensation. Too many people view their stock as an afterthought. No real plan other than “Hopefully it goes up”. And that’s the problem with rest & vest. - You get stock - You get refreshers - It grows to a huge % of your investments - You become over reliant on your company Then ➡️ One bad CEO. I had the great privilege of attending #southbound last week, hosted by RevPartners and I'm still processing all of the amazing nuggets of wisdom shared by all of the speakers. When you put some of the top sales and marketing leaders in a room together, magic is going to happen. Here are just a few of the insights I took away: 📈 Sangram Vajre shared that the CEO should own GTM. Not sales. Not marketing. Not the CRO. The entire company needs to be in sync to effectively grow and expand. 🔢 CAC Payback, NRR, unit economics, and the Rule of 40 are the metrics that matter to VCs, PE firms, and investors. 👩💻 While we're seeing a lot of layoffs and consolidation, AI is reducing barriers to entry. Expect to see more and more small companies pop-up. 🌶 Alina Vandenberghe explained the value in posting content from her personal account rather than the company account. People want to buy from other people. Not a faceless company. 🤝 Jeff Perkins Predicts that in-person events are coming back in a big way, but with better connection, more intention, and on a smaller, more local scale 🎯 TAM isn't as important as SAM (serviceable addressable market) 🤖 Kyle Coleman shared that AI should be used to reduce bloat. Start with a human, end with a human, but use AI to streamline the middle of a process. There are so many more amazing takeaways and speakers, but this is just a little glimpse into a remarkable day. Like Mike mentioned in his post that Upvoty showed signs of success from day 1, I believe in this too, and hope one of many MicroSaaS products I am building will take off from the Product Hunt launch and onwards.
