The Christmas season is here, and it’s time to pull out the festive décor, set up the tree, and start preparing that delicious holiday feast! But as you get caught up in the excitement, some hidden dangers lurk in the most innocent holiday tasks. You might be surprised to learn that decorating the tree or carving the Christmas ham could lead to injuries – and we’re not just talking about a paper cut from wrapping presents! According to figures from the ACC, nearly 1,200 people suffered injuries involving Christmas trees between 2012 and 2021, with injuries costing over $800,000. And that's just the tip of the iceberg regarding Christmas-related injuries. But don't worry – with some planning and awareness, you can avoid becoming one of these statistics and enjoy a safe holiday season with your loved ones. Here are some common Christmas injuries and practical tips to help you (and your whānau) avoid them. Thanksgiving gatherings can be a whirlwind of activity, and that can sometimes be overwhelming for kids (and adults!). Here's how to create some calming spaces and moments amidst the holiday bustle: 🔕 Quiet Zone: Designate a quiet room or corner where kids can retreat for some peace and quiet. Include calming items like soft blankets, pillows, books, or sensory toys. ⏲️ Scheduled Breaks: Plan short breaks throughout the day where kids can step away from the excitement. Even 15 minutes can help them recharge. 🎶 Sensory Activities: Offer calming sensory activities like coloring, play dough, puzzles, or listening to quiet music. 🌤️ Outdoor Time: Encourage some outdoor playtime to burn off energy and enjoy fresh air. Recognize that every child is different. Some might thrive in the excitement, while others need more downtime. Be responsive to their cues. By creating a balance between festive fun and peaceful moments, you can help everyone enjoy a happy and stress-free Thanksgiving. #SensoryFriendly #CalmKids #HolidayWellbeing #SHIELDWV

Is this you? Running around like a headless chicken (or muddy dog!) trying to get everything done before you finish up for Christmas? Let’s face it, we are all blooming busy without the addition of Christmas. We have overflowing ‘to do’ lists, trying to cram in work, life, home, kids, fun and some much needed sleep. Then come December, every year without fail, we ramp it up! Not just once notch, but about 20 or 30! We are desperately trying to complete that overflowing ‘to do’ list in record time. We have now added to it, with all the present buying, menu planning, house decorating etc, etc. And on top of that, there’s all those extra social engagements we have to go to. Whereas all we really want to do is curl up on the sofa, or have an early night, because we’re already exhausted! It’s okay to slow down for Christmas, not speed up. It’s okay to do Christmas your way. We put so much pressure on ourselves to make each year perfect, better than the last, when we all know, there’s no such thing as perfect. I’m one of the lucky ones. No one is putting pressure on me to do Christmas their way. What’s one thing you can do to ease the pressure of Christmas for you this year? Video of Nell being Nell! Having fun and doing the build up to Christmas her way! #christmas #toomuch #slowdown #busy #pressure

Mondays... they set the tone for the week ahead. With Christmas just around the corner, it can be a distracting time of year. Here are some tips to stop your mind from wandering. - Use Monday morning to organise your tasks into groups: make sure to prioritise those that need to be completed first and those that can wait. Being realistic about what you can achieve will help you to set reasonable goals, in turn giving you chance to get more done. - Take your lunch breaks. It can be tempting to work through but research shows that taking some time away from your desk actually makes you more productive when you return. - Try to set times for breaks to chat to colleagues about their festive plans. Having designated times - perhaps while sharing some treats or a hot chocolate - will keep your mind focused when it matters. - If you find the Christmas trimmings overwhelming, keep your space clear and explain to colleagues why. Not everyone wants flashing lights, tinsel and Christmas tunes to contend with when they have a to do list to get through. If you have any further suggestions, please do share them in the comments. #GlaziersHall #MondayMotivation #EventPlanning #LondonVenue #LondonMeetingSpaces
