The way dual-enrollment programs are designed and intended to work has a lot to do with their impact on both students and the institutions offering them, CCRC's John Fink told Inside Higher Ed. “In some places the mindset is shifting toward access, what we call ‘deep dual enrollment,’” Fink said. “That approach has extra costs and requires a real commitment in terms of outreach and extra support. But there are increasing incentives to take it because of the better enrollment returns … it really is an opportunity for colleges to grow their pool of future students.”

It’s a common challenge for four-year institutions dipping their toes into dual enrollment. Only about 31 percent of dual enrollees at a four-year college re-enroll after they graduate from high school, according to new data from Columbia University’s Community College Research Center, and that number drops to 23 percent after one term. Record Freshman Class Leads to Record Enrollment Take a snapshot of the enrollment at Cedarville University this year and you'll see amazing numbers and statistics. * The freshman class increased 15.6% from the previous year, moving from 1,017 students in 2023 to 1,176 this year. * The graduate school, with 30 online and residential master's or doctoral programs, increased to 590 new students. * Cedarville's dual-enrollment program for high school students jumped 61% and now serves 1,752 students. * Cedarville's freshman-to-sophomore retention rate hit 89.4%. Wow, what an incredible statistic that points that the quality of academic programs and care of the students by the faculty and staff. So, what do all of these record numbers add up to? Another record enrollment at Cedarville University. Cedarville's undergraduate, graduate, and dual-enrolled student body now stands at 6,384--a 17% increase from last year's enrollment of 5,456. https://lnkd.in/gdStxqNG

Meanwhile, in some suburbs, no testing is necessary to attend a high-quality high school, just down the road. CCRC's latest research, "Lessons From Two Major Evaluations of Guided Pathways," reveals how this framework is making a real difference. With over 400 community colleges on board, students are now finding clearer, more affordable paths to their goals. 3 Key takeaways: 1. Whole-college reform is possible but needs time. Patience pays off! 2. Positive links between Guided Pathways practices and student achievements are emerging. 3. While helpful for all, it doesn’t fully close the achievement gaps. More work to do! The article details how six high school and community college teams collaborated during the Dual Enrollment Pathway Institute, focusing on assessing partnerships, selecting pathways, and planning implementation. By aligning resources, courses, and student support services, these teams are creating opportunities for students to excel both academically and in their future careers.
