Islamic finance experts advise people to choose Sharia-compliant institutions for Zakat and charity. Some organizations collect donations but invest them in interest-based ways, against Islamic rules. Donors should research recipients, especially hospitals and NGOs. They should ask about fund collection, usage, and investments before giving. Organizations should make their financial records public and get Sharia audits. People donate during Ramadan, but they should avoid institutions using interest-based investments. Zakat should go to deserving individuals first, then to organizations. Do you consider yourself a charitable person? How does where you live compare to 142 other countries? I found this data really interesting. The Charities Aid Foundation, based on a Gallup 2023 survey of more than 145,000 respondents from 142 countries, examined the percentage of people who donated money to charity in the past month. The highest numbers of monetary donations were recorded in Indonesia – 90%, Myanmar – 78% and Malta – 74%. The lowest figures were recorded in Georgia, Botswana – 6%, in Tunisia and Yemen –7%. 🏆 2023 was a record-breaking year for philanthropy in Kosovo. Surpassing even the surge of giving during COVID, citizens, companies and nonprofits in donated over 8.7 million EUR for the common good. In my talks with Pendaeli Amos we discussed the financial situation and the things we can do for his community. They are not used to set aside donation money for daily operations for the long term, because it is giving for a personal subject of interest. When I supported the tree project this spring, I said he could set aside a part for a rainy day, but all the money went to trees. This because he wanted to plant a lot of trees and he did, but didn't looked far in the future. This is common in his culture and we respect that, so we wanted to make a way to solve this and made this project on #GlobalGiving. So this unrestricted donation gives more space to help for operational growht. Summary of the project: "Maybe a bit strange, but with all projects, we need funds to do basic things for our organisation to operate on a daily basis. From the website to some fuel for the car or new laptop, or a meeting with farmers to start a new project. Not all donors like to label their funds to one topic, so with this project, you can donate and we may decide what is used for emergency on projects, for daily operations or for savings for next years to come." As I've shared a few times before, I never in my wildest dreams imagined that we could build a school, let alone a school as beautiful as this one. In the video, you can see Yuri, who is part of Hai and oversees all the construction processes in Kenya. Building something in Kenya as a foreigner is SUCH a big challenge that every day is an adventure. But the important thing is that everything is going perfectly well. Today is a bonus day on Global Giving (the fundraising platform we use), and for every $100 donation, Global Giving donates an additional 40%. It's a donation with high value, but the important thing is to donate, regardless of the amount. A Business Owner using LinkedIn to ask people, with an emphasis on Business Owners, to donate. Like my profile description says, I am not everybody's cup of tea… Hotel Hope Ministries take care of our, yours and my future problems. Abandoned children with potentially nowhere to go other than your house to steal from to survive. We, you and me, need R350 000 per month to keep these children away from our homes. You claim not to have money to donate, but #McDonalds, #KFC, #BurgerKing, #Nandos, #RocoMamas, do very well thanks to you not having money to donate to keep potential thieves away from your home. You could of course also just accept that these potential thieves are just like your own children and deserve a chance to live a life with dignity. And we can make that happen.
