Now that we've officially finished the turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie and wound down the Thanksgiving festivities, and as we sit here on Travel Tuesday (make sure to check those airfare deals! ✈️), let's talk about retail's Super Bowl: Black Friday! 🛍️ Black Friday can trace it's origins to Philadelphia in the 1950s, when post Thanksgiving shoppers mixed with tourists and Army-Navy football fans to create chaos in downtown Philly. By the 1960s, the chaos continued but the local retailers has begun to capitalize on the crowds, offering deals to shoppers on the day after Thanksgiving. It wasn't until the 1980s that Black Friday truly took off nationwide (though pockets of the US partook far earlier), and I'm sure we all remember the weirdly nostalgic Black Fridays (and commercials) of the 1990s and 2000s, with shoppers lining up at Macy's, Sears, and more at 2 AM, hoping to score 65% off a new TV 📺 and 50% off cookware 🔪. (If you don't, hopefully the picture below jobs your memory!) Fast forwarding to today, Black Friday has transformed from a one-day shopping experience to a week-long shopping extravaganza, with deals hitting the sites and shelves a few days before Thanksgiving, and lasting through Small-Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. That's not to say that Black Friday still looks the same, with fewer opportunities to find 70% off a new appliance and far more traditional discount numbers, but the shopping excitement remains and Black Friday persists. Speaking of Black Friday, I'm sure you're already thinking about Black Friday 2025, and there's no better place to learn how to up your game than The Lead Summit (May 28-29, 2025)! Registration opens soon so keep an eye out for another update there! 💬 Lastly, I would love to hear about your biggest Black Friday steals, best finds, or most impulsive purchases (those are the fun ones!) in the comments below!

How do you feel about Black Friday? The US shopping frenzy that's somehow made its way to Australia Here’s my take ⬇️ On the one hand I hate it - because it’s just another marketing trick to get people to buy stuff they don't need, with crazy ads and limited-time offers (many of which are not as good as at others times of the year). When you impulse shop you’re more likely to make poor choices that you don’t need and don’t end up using. On the other hand if you're organised, Black Friday can be a good time to save $’s on Christmas presents. Just know what you need and stick to your list. If you always find yourself doing everything Xmas last minute, download my free 18 - page Festive Planner to get ahead of the game. It will help you plan your shopping now plus get ahead of the game on the Xmas to-do-list, cards, meal planning and budgeting. It also contains ideas for minimalist gifts so you know you’re not adding to the waste this Xmas. You can download it from the link in my bio.

Black Friday It’s the day after Thanksgiving when we all give thanks for family and friends. Today, it’s the time to remember those same family and friends by shopping for the holidays. You might say that it’s the worst day to venture out to stores but you could miss out on some deals. The bargains on this day can be good and very hard to resist. We wonder if anyone knows what really caused the phrase “Black Friday?” If you do, you’ll recall that it was started by a couple of ne’er-do-well Wall Street financiers. They caused the gold market to fall which launched bankruptcies. A day in infamy thus the label “Black.” Today we know that it kicks off the holiday shopping season. Retailers have bargains that bring us into the stores. Some specials seem too good to pass up! Traffic on the road and in the stores can be heavy so use caution and move slowly. It’s so easy to get caught up in rushing around. There are some good sales on Black Friday but stressing yourself out might not be worth it. Private Home Health Care likes to get a good bargain but we realize that it’s more than presents that make the holidays special. We hope you get some bargains without stressing yourself out. 10 Things You Might Not Know About Black Friday! Black Friday is more than just shopping—it's packed with history and surprising facts! Did you know it originally referred to stock market crashes, or that it’s the busiest day of the year for plumbers (thanks, Thanksgiving feasts)? Most people believe Black Friday got its name because holiday sales made the retail industry profitable, turning the books from “in the red” (losing money) to “in the black” (making a profit). While that interpretation stuck, the day’s history is even richer than we think! Swipe through to learn more fun facts, and let us know your favorite Black Friday tradition in the comments! #BlackFriday #FunFacts #HolidayShopping #ShopSmart #InTheBlack

🛍️ ⚫ Did you know Black Friday isn't just an American tradition anymore? Let’s explore ↓ It’s the most wonderful time of the year…and no, not Christmas yet. This week is Thanksgiving in the United States and – more importantly – it’s the retail world’s favorite holiday: Black Friday. Originating in the midcentury US as a chance to kick off the holiday shopping season, Black Friday has gone global in recent decades. Brazil, for example, started seeing an uptick in Black Friday deals in 2010 and a peak in interest in 2019 before the pandemic came and dealt a nasty blow. Other big countries like Colombia and Peru have seen their own spikes in attention on Google Trends. Meanwhile, Argentina has seen no real change over the last decade, perhaps in part due to the ongoing economic crisis which has harmed many citizens’ purchasing power for years now. And then there’s Mexico, which – despite being the only Latin American country to border the US – has not quite adopted Black Friday to the degree its regional peers has. Instead, the country’s Council of Business Coordination rolled out El Buen Fin, or “the Good Weekend,” in 2011. Coming the weekend before Mexican Revolution Day, El Buen Fin has become a widely popular weekend of shopping and special promotions nationwide. Last year alone, billions of dollars exchanged hands in Mexico and consumers took on surging personal loans to participate in an experience that is increasingly moving online. Whether successful in your Buen Fin deal hunting or getting ready to head out this week for Black Friday, we wish you the best of luck this holiday shopping season.

Really interesting post! Black Friday has definitely spread across Latin America, but it’s a great example of how the region’s diversity shapes global trends in unique ways. Take Mexico, for instance. While 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 has gained some ground, Mexico has its own event, El Buen Fin, which lasts an entire weekend. It’s tailored to local shopping habits and even supported by the government and businesses to stimulate the economy. It’s a smart adaptation that shows how countries in the region put their own spin on global ideas. This is a great reminder of the incredible variety within Latin America—something that’s easy to overlook but so important to understand! #Innovation #Creativity #GlobalTrends #Diversity #LatinAmerica #CulturalAdaptation #BlackFriday #ElBuenFin #RetailEvolution #ConsumerBehavior #MarketingInsights

What if you didn’t have to rely on Black Friday to sell more? Black Friday and similar events like El Buen Fin in Mexico are monumental for sales, but they also reveal a common challenge for many ecommerce brands: the overreliance on specific dates to achieve annual goals. Let’s pause and think: What if your brand’s success didn’t hinge on one or two big events each year? 🤔 The reality is that relying too heavily on these peaks often comes at the expense of long-term consistency. A more sustainable approach involves developing strategies that ensure steady engagement and profitability throughout the year. Here are 4 insights to help ecommerce businesses thrive beyond big sales events: 1️⃣ Cultivate year-round engagement: Consumers are more likely to buy from brands they interact with regularly. Instead of focusing all efforts on one big event, consider campaigns like seasonal themes, loyalty programs and exclusive product drops. 2️⃣ Embrace personalization through data: Ecommerce success often lies in understanding your audience. Use tools to analyze customer behavior and tailor your approach: purchase history, browsing habits, lifecycle stage. Brands that excel in personalization make their customers feel seen and valued, which drives loyalty over time. 3️⃣ Build micro-events outside of traditional peaks: Instead of waiting for November, create your own calendar of micro-events. Examples include monthly themed promotions like “Wellness Week” or “Tech Tuesday., anniversary celebrations or regional holidays. These smaller-scale events can not only smooth out sales dips but also create unique opportunities to stand out in a competitive landscape. 4️⃣ Synchronize your channels for a seamless experience: Today’s shoppers expect to interact with your brand across multiple platforms. To build trust and maximize impact, ensure that your messaging is consistent everywhere: your website, email campaigns, and social media posts should all tell the same story. Synchronizing touchpoints improves user experience and increases the likelihood of conversions. Black Friday and similar events can be incredible growth opportunities, but they shouldn’t define your entire strategy. What are your thoughts on this? Let’s share experiences below!
