Steps towards Green Hydrogen adoption

BASF SE and AM Green Group recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (#MoU) to jointly assess and develop #opportunities in #lowcarbon chemical production powered exclusively by #renewableenergy in India. The MoU was signed by Dr Markus Kamieth, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, BASF SE, and @Mahesh Kolli, Group President, AM Green, at Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business 2024 held in New Delhi lately. The partnership outlines a plan for #feasibility studies on low-carbon #chemicalproduction, focusing on evaluating the #technologies required to achieve #sustainableproduction goals. The companies have included a non-binding letter of intent in the MoU, which sets a preliminary agreement for BASF SE to secure an annual supply of 100,000 tons of #ammonia produced entirely from #renewableenergysources, including pumped storage projects across AM Green’s facilities. The renewable ammonia is expected to comply with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (#REDIII) standards, which define #renewablefuels of non-biological origin (#RNBO). AM Green’s existing plants have received pre-certification under the CertifHy EU RFNBO Scheme, a European Voluntary Scheme, and efforts are ongoing to extend this certification to other facilities. Dr Kamieth expressed confidence that #India provides the right setting for low-carbon chemical production in partnership with AM Green. Kolli noted that the collaboration aligns with AM Green’s focus on expanding green molecule production, which would support BASF SE’s efforts to supply important #greenmaterials for various chemical and consumer markets. BASF SE and AM Green Group entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly evaluate opportunities in low-carbon chemicals produced exclusively with renewable energy in India and for the offtake of 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually. Dr. Markus Kamieth, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, and Kolli Mahesh , Group President of AM Green, signed the agreement during the Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business 2024 hosted last week in New Delhi, India. Under the MoU, BASF and AM Green intend to conduct feasibility studies on low-carbon chemicals production in India including a joint evaluation of potential technologies. Hanwha, INEOS to Study Low-Carbon Ammonia Plant in the US South Korean conglomerate Hanwha Group and INEOS Nitriles intend to collaborate in a study for a low-carbon #ammonia facility with carbon sequestration in the US, with a capacity of more than 1 million tons per annum. The location of the plant with a projected capacity of more than 1 million t/y is yet to be determined, the companies said. The final #investment decision is planned for 2026 with commercial operation scheduled to begin in 2030. "Our collaboration with Ineos Nitriles is aimed at strengthening our strategic foothold in the global ammonia market and addressing the growing worldwide demand for clean ammonia solutions," said Kiwon Yang, CEO of Hanwha. "The production of industrial materials using clean ammonia aligns well with our commitment to key sustainability principles. Today we reported solid financial results for the first half of 2024. With sales of CHF 3.1 billion for H1 2024, with our business performance well on track to deliver our Full-Year Outlook.   Business highlights in H1 included the signing of an agreement to acquire the Genentech large-scale mammalian facility in Vacaville (US) from Roche, which will double our global large-scale mammalian network and significantly increase our presence in the US. We welcomed Jean-Marc Huët as our new Chairman of the Board in May, and welcomed Wolfgang Wienand as our new CEO in July.   We also continued to make progress on our ESG commitments. Our emissions targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in the First Half, and we signed a renewable energy certificate agreement that will enable our current facilities in the US to achieve 100% renewable electricity from 2026. BASF and ENGIE signed a 7-year Biomethane Purchase Agreement (BPA). Under the BPA, ENGIE will supply BASF with 2.7 to 3.0 terawatt hours of biomethane throughout the term of the agreement. BASF uses certified biomethane at its Ludwigshafen (Germany) and Antwerp (Belgium) sites as a sustainable alternative to fossil raw materials in its manufacturing process. 📣 Good news from Vienna – two times.   1️⃣ We have published our Q2/2024 results. It has again been a solid quarter for OMV. Our Clean CCS Operating Result was at 1.2 billion euros – 4% higher vs. Q2/2023. The clean CCS Operating Result of the Chemicals segment increased substantially to 114 million euros. This was mainly due to a positive impact from inventory effects and a better result from the Borealis joint venture Borouge. We also profited from an improved margin environment for polyolefins, double digit growth in sales volumes, and the absent negative contribution of the divested nitrogen business. 2️⃣ A new and innovative initiative is our collaboration with Clariant. Together, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of ethylene and ethylene oxide derivatives. Clariant will grow its bio-based ethylene oxide derivatives portfolio with renewable low-carbon footprint ethylene from OMV. Our focus will be the European ethylene supply chain. 🌱 I am excited about the opportunities this collaboration with Clariant offers. There is a broad application base for ethylene oxide and derivatives, and we are dedicated to enabling sustainable transformations for our customers as well as for OMV.
