Sempen Joins AHK-Uruguay Offtaker Tour: Uncovering Groundbreaking Innovations in Hydrogen and Sustainable Fuels Sempen was part of the Offtaker Tour to Germany organized by AHK-Uruguay delegation, diving into the forefront of hydrogen and sustainable fuels. 💡We connected with industry leaders and explored breakthrough solutions driving the energy transition. Key highlights included: ·      thyssenkrupp: Showcased their Carbon2Chem pilot plant, where they capture CO2 from carbon generation and produce methanol with a 2 MW proprietary electrolyzer. ·      TanQuid GmbH & Co. KG: Europe's main river terminal, exploring SAF blending services and future sustainable fuel strategies. ·      Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft: Public research organization focused on batteries and methanol projects. ·      LyondellBasell: Leader in plastics, chemicals, and refining looking into sustainable fuels. ·      BASF: Global chemical leader, actively seeking sustainable alternatives to traditional fuels with a strong focus on green methanol. ·      Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT): University leading Power-to-X research with a green methanol pilot now moving into the demonstration phase. 🚀At Sempen, we are not only aligned with the latest industry trends and best practices but are positioning ourselves as pioneers, driving the future of sustainable innovation. #EnergyTransition #HydrogenEconomy #SustainableFuels #OfftakerTour

🌍 “Lei do Combustivel do Futuro”: Catalyzing Brazil's Low-Carbon Future🌱 Brazil has officially enacted the Lei do Combustível do Futuro, a major step toward decarbonizing its transport sector and advancing sustainable fuel technologies. Key highlights: ✈️ Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): Through the National Sustainable Aviation Fuel Program (ProBioQAV), airlines will begin cutting domestic flight emissions in 2027, aiming for a 10% reduction by 2037 through SAF adoption achieved through increased SAF blending with conventional aviation kerosene. 🚗 Biofuel Blending: The National Biodiesel Program (PNDV) will increase biodiesel content in diesel to 20% by 2030, while bioethanol blends in gasoline could reach 35%. Currently, bioethanol blending is 22%-27%, and biodiesel is blended at 14%. ⛽ Green Diesel & Gas: RenovaBio, the National Decarbonization Program, supports low-carbon fuels like bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas, and biomethane through decarbonization certificates (CBIOs). Starting in 2026, the program will also promote sustainable marine fuels, with a goal to reduce carbon intensity by 10%. 🌿Brazil's Grid Emissions: Among the World's Lowest, Even in the Driest Year 🌍 Globally, there is a clear link between renewable energy share and CO2 emissions from electricity grids: the higher renewable penetration, the lower the emissions. Brazil demonstrates an even more pronounced connection: its renewable share has been consistently between 75% and 94% since 2006, mainly determined by hydro power availability, which translates into emissions between 8 and 40 gCO2/MJ, while 2023’s global average was 133.8 gCO2/MJ. 💧Even during its driest periods, Brazil remains among the top 10 nations with the least carbon-intensive grids, paving the way for sustainable fuel production. 🚀By continuing to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, Brazil will further strengthen its position as a global clean energy leader.
