Brookfield Police Department Sergeant Joe Kyek and Youth Officer Mitch Heller joined Yale New Haven Health staff and volunteers to deliver a semi-truck-load of toys for pediatric patients across the health system. Thousands of toys were received, sorted and stored. Every pediatric patient is given an age-appropriate toy or small gift when they are discharged. Toys are given out 365 days a year. This year the Toy Closet Program supplied more than 150,000 toys to locations across the health system. The sweet treats were flowing this week as staff across Yale New Haven Health enjoyed holiday cookies in appreciation for their compassionate care and commitment to our patients throughout the year.

For years, Mary Johnson ran through the pain. As a long-distance runner, she had learned to push through the aches, strains and sore muscles that came with the sport. But the pain that started in 2016 was not normal – and by 2022, Mary was in agony. That’s when she turned to a program at Yale New Haven Hospital that aims to treat non-arthritic hip pain and prevent future hip replacements. Today leaders from Yale New Haven Health cut the ribbon on a new, state-of-the-art retail pharmacy located in the lobby of Bridgeport Hospital. Set to open early next year, the retail pharmacy will offer integrated, personalized pharmacy services for patients, employees and the community. “This pharmacy not only provides convenient access to medications, it also will bridge the gap between inpatient care and patients going home,” said Anne Davila Casas Diamond, DBA, JD, president of Bridgeport Hospital. The pharmacy will also improve access to pharmacy services for the entire community. “As retail pharmacies in general are reducing hours or closing down, this pharmacy provides an access point and another choice for community and hospital patients,” said LeeAnn Miller, PharmD, MS, vice president and chief pharmacy officer at YNHHS.
