  • Over 500,000 people visit the San Diego Civic Theatre and the historic Balboa Theatre each year. 🎭 Whether it’s dinner and a show or a fun-filled staycation, our new Dining & Hospitality Partnership Program is the perfect opportunity to turn our patrons into your patrons. This program connects our audiences to hot spots and exclusive deals with incredible local businesses. It’s about celebrating San Diego, supporting our community and making the perfect night out even better. A big thank you to Bandaar Restaurant, The Cafe at The Alma, The Local and Roma Mia for partnering with us to launch this exciting program. 🥂 If you’re a restaurant, hotel, or local business interested in partnering, let’s connect: marketing@sandiegotheatres.org. • For 30 years, San Diego Theatres has proudly given back to Home Start Inc., supporting local children and families in need through our annual toy drives and giving efforts 🎁 Consistently led by the amazing JaeTi Randall-Valdes, CVP, last year our team collected 187 toys and $1,000 in gift cards—far surpassing our goals. This Giving Tuesday, we’re inviting the our patrons and the entire San Diego community to join us in giving back and making an even bigger impact! As part of our Roaring 20’s Holiday edition of Silent Movie Monday on December 9th, we’re hosting a toy drive at the historic Balboa Theatre. All patrons and local businesses are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to benefit Home Start. Learn more about the event & toy drive here: https://lnkd.in/gFgWa_5N ✨ Enjoy a night of holiday magic with classic silent films, live performances, a visit from Santa, and a snowy finale under our beautifully lit marquee in the heart of the Gaslamp District! Let’s come together to make the holidays brighter for San Diego’s kids. #GivingTuesday #HomeStart #SanDiego #SilentMovieMonday #BalboaTheatre #HolidayGiving

    • Promotional poster for a "Silent Movie Monday" event featuring a film screening and toy drive in partnership with Home Start and KPBS. The poster includes images of classic silent film stars and decorative snowflakes.
  • The oohs, ahhs, and boos from last night’s sold-out audience, paired with the rumble of Model T engines lined up outside the theatre, created an unforgettable 1920s atmosphere at our Silent Movie Monday premiere! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, dressed up, and stepped back in time to enjoy The Phantom of the Opera. Special thanks to organist Russ Peck, Tonya Mantooth, our official media sponsor KPBS San Diego, and our community partners—the Model T Ford Club of San Diego and the San Diego International Film Festival. Mark your calendars for our next immersive Silent Movie Monday experience on December 9th! Join us for a live performance by the San Diego Children’s Choir, Buster Keaton’s Cops (1922) and Laurel and Hardy’s Big Business (1929), a Santa-led sing-along, and don’t forget to bundle up! ❄️ We’re forecasting a flurry of excitement (and maybe even a little snow!) at this magical winter wonder event.

  • Is it really Media Day at a historic theatre if there isn’t a behind-the-scenes tour with freshly popped popcorn in hand? 🍿✨ We didn’t think so! A huge thank you to all the journalists, photographers, and content creators who joined us at the Balboa Theatre for an exclusive preview of our Silent Movie Monday series! Our incredible organists, Ken Double and Russ Peck, set the tone with haunting musical selections. We couldn't have done it without Media Day sponsor Sodexo Live!'s dramatic confectionary display and Phantom-inspired "Chandelier Drop" signature cocktail in celebration of our inaugural event The Phantom of The Opera (1925), available at the show this Monday! 🎹🍸 Join us as we continue celebrating 100 years of the Balboa Theatre with Silent Movie Mondays—an immersive musical and cinematic experience like no other! #BalboaTheatre100 #SilentMovieMondays #PhantomOfTheOpera #SanDiegoMedia

  • We're thrilled to share that the world premiere production of Rachmaninoff and the Tsar at Balboa Theatre has received glowing praise from Pam Kragen of The San Diego Union-Tribune! She describes Hershey Felder's latest work as "one of his best," highlighting his masterful performance, where he plays Rachmaninoff's repertoire with "both delicate pianissimo and ferocious bravado." We also extend our deepest gratitude to our San Diego community for their support of this production, especially to representatives of the San Diego Tourism Authority, San Diego Concierge Association, and Home Start Inc. for attending the opening night performance. We've also welcomed piano and music students from across San Diego to experience the magic of live theatre! Rachmaninoff and the Tsar runs through August 31 — don't miss the chance to experience this extraordinary play. On #NationalNonprofitDay, we’re proud to celebrate our role as a performing arts nonprofit in San Diego. Our mission goes beyond entertainment—we actively support and uplift other local nonprofits. We recently joined the Gaslamp Quarter Association, a nonprofit that promotes over 400 businesses in our vibrant district through community relations, special events and promotional programs. We're also long-time participants in Home Start Inc.'s annual holiday toy drive, a tradition that started in our ticketing department nearly 30 years ago. Last year, our team collected over 180 toys and $1,000 in gift cards and this year we are taking our efforts to a new level (stay tuned for exciting news)! Through the Balboa Theatre Grant Fund, we recently awarded nearly $50,000 to incredible nonprofit performing arts organizations that call our historic stages home. Thanks to donor and sponsor support, we’re making our spaces more accessible to diverse groups in our community, including San Diego Opera, San Diego Gay Men's Chorus, La Jolla Music Society, Classics 4 Kids, City Ballet of San Diego and the International Mariachi Foundation. Together, we’re supporting local arts and enriching our community!
