About us
We're finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. Iron ore for steel. Low carbon aluminium for electric cars and smartphones. Copper for wind turbines, electric cars and the pipes that bring water to our home. Borates that help crops grow and titanium for paint.

Close to half of the aluminium we provide globally is produced in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region in Quebec, Canada. Our operational footprint in the area includes: 🏭 An alumina refinery and 5 wholly owned smelters. 🌊 6 hydropower plants. 🔬 Our Arvida Research and Development Centre (ARDC). ⚙️ The Aluminium Operations Centre. 🚢 A rail network and port. This ecosystem of facilities works together to provide some of the world's lowest-carbon aluminium. #Aluminium #FindingBetterWays

Kwinana Industrial Area, south of Perth, Western Australia, could become home to Australia’s largest ironmaking electric smelting furnace pilot plant. Earlier this year we announced a collaboration with BHP and BlueScope to create NeoSmelt, a project to test the technology to produce iron without the need for traditional, often emissions heavy, blast furnaces. Woodside Energy will join NeoSmelt as an equal equity participant and energy supplier, subject to finalising commercial arrangements. If successful, this has the potential to open a pathway to near-zero emissions-intensity steelmaking using Australian iron ore. #SteelDecarbonisation #IronOre #FindingBetterWays

“From a very young age, I aspired to work where I could make a difference and contribute in my own, modest way.” Fanta, Communities and Regional Manager for the Simandou iron ore project in Guinea, believes in supporting and fostering sustainable relationships with local communities. She trains and educates women about their rights and employment opportunities, helping them with indirect employment and entrepreneurship. With 22 years of experience in community and social performance, Fanta has overseen many successful projects, including indirect job creation, vocational training for young girls, literacy programs for female entrepreneurs and capacity building initiatives to create over 100 companies. These initiatives include income-generating activities and support for young people in agro-pastoral ventures. She has also launched a youth integration program focusing on brick production, primarily involving young women. These achievements have earned her a place among the top 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining. “This nomination means more than recognition. It’s an encouraging reminder of why I love what I do and inspires me to keep moving forward,” Fanta said. #FindingBetterWays #WIM100 #Simandou

We're investing US$2.5 billion to expand the Rincon lithium project capacity to 60,000 tonnes per year. Rincon is our first commercial scale lithium operation and will produce battery-grade lithium carbonate. Rincon's capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year is comprised of the 3,000-tonne starter plant and 57,000-tonne expansion plant. Lithium is a critical ingredient for clean technologies such as electric vehicles and battery storage. It will play an essential role as the world transitions to a low carbon future. Rincon is a large, long-life asset, with Ore Reserves 60% higher than we assumed at the time of acquisition. “The attractive long-term outlook for lithium driven by the energy transition underpins our investment in Rincon,” Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm said. “Building on Argentina's supportive economic policies, skilled workforce, and exceptional resources we are positioning ourselves to become one of the top lithium producers globally. We are committed to meeting the highest ESG standards, leveraging our advanced technology to halve the amount of water used in processing, while continuing to grow our mutually beneficial partnerships with local communities and Salta province.” For more: https://lnkd.in/g7HXvPRC #Rincon #Lithium #FindingBetterWays

"This day didn’t just transform the girls; it impacted the community as well." Kadiatou, Human Rights Advisor at our Simandou project, is driving change in Guinea by advocating for women’s rights, inclusion and opportunities — inspiring young girls to see a brighter future. We're breaking down barriers through programs like the Simandou Moussolou committee and mentoring initiatives. Recently, girls from local communities spent a week discovering the roles we have at our site — including those of engineer and safety leader. "When I came here, I discovered that women work in the offices, or on the sites, just like men," Angeline, a student, shared. "This gives me the courage to focus on my studies so that in the future I can work here." The experience was a reminder for Kadiatou of the enormous potential that lies within every girl in neighbouring communities. "We’re committed to ensuring that human rights are not just respected but actively championed, and that every girl knows her future is hers to shape," Kadiatou said. #FindingBetterWays #WorldHumanRightsDay
