This week is meant to give the construction industry, its clients and business partners an opportunity to recommit to strengthening their safety culture and performance to ensure we are sending every worker home safe each day. The focus this year is "Value Every Voice" and it fits perfectly in with the days theme below. "Encourage & Welcome New Ideas: Valuing every voice makes sure all team members have a chance to add ideas and are not restricted to the perceived best practice of the loudest voice on the crew. Instead, they are empowered to ask questions, challenge norms, share different ideas for improvement and solve problems in a collaborative and more effective manner. Continuing the Conversation on Safety – Central Rail Systems Alliance Eastern SHELT Period 8 Attending the CRSA Eastern SHELT meetings is always a great opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and reinforce the shared commitment to safety as our top priority with likeminded people from within the industry. Period 8’s session, hosted today by Ryan Caven, Susan Wren, and Mark Hardeman, was no exception, with valuable insights and collaborative discussion being held throughout the day. One of the highlights was a presentation from Story Plant Limited's John Cahill on the ORR’s new fatigue guidance only information document. The discussions that followed emphasised the importance of proactive planning, with ideas such as conducting a trial analysis of our organisations to prepare for any potential future implementation or change to this guidance on fatigue. Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. also shared their approach and procedures undertaken on how they ensure safe deliveries of their equipment's and welfare cabins providing practical examples of how thorough preparation supports critical operational success. Ryan Cavern then reviewed the period’s HSE performance, addressing close call trends, lessons learned from incidents, and actions taken to continually improve safety outcomes. The focus then on environmental stewardship was also key, with a reminder of the impact winter works can have on habitats and the importance of leaving infrastructure better than we found it. Looking forward, the importance of team involvement was highlighted with the announcement of a team specific safety stand-down session for CRSA Eastern and Vital Human Resources (Rail, Resources, Solutions, Security) Supervisors, Engineering supervisors and ES assistants and Points operators. This session will ensure clarity on roles & responsibilities, rule book requirements, and expectations when working on all CRSA Eastern Projects, further solidifying safety standards across the board. It’s always encouraging to see how these forums drive open discussions and fresh ideas to strengthen our practices. The collaborative effort from everyone involved ensures we remain focused on making safety not just a priority, but a core value in everything we do every day. #SafetyFirst #SHELT #Collaboration
