We serve two customers at Apartment List. Listers, our property management and ownership partners that advertise on our marketplace and use our AI to run leasing. And Renters, the millions of folks that have engaged with our website and app in order to find a home that they love. We held an empathy day last week while the whole company was together. The purpose? To gain a deeper understanding of our customer and to stretch how we are learning and who we are learning from. And the programming was so smart. All of the folks that sit on the “Lister” side of our business went and listened to a panel where renters who rented on Apartment List shared their experiences and provided feedback on it. The “Renter” side of the business sat in on a panel with two customers where we heard learned about their roles, the market environment, and gained critical insight into how we fit into their marketing and ways we can improve. Special thanks to Conor McManus and Mariya Heath for sharing time with us. You were a highlight of the week!

Last week, the DoJ ended its criminal investigation of #Multifamily #RevenueManagement (RM). That investigation was one of the sillier twists in the saga of lawsuits, new legislation, etc., and it should not surprise anyone that it went out with a whimper last Friday afternoon. At the same time, RM is attracting levels of interest and activity for *good* reasons. I've never seen this many companies actively addressing their future RM strategies and technology. It's a good time to take stock, and address an important matter that too few leaders understand: what RM systems actually do, as I explain in this week's blog. Last night was something special. The idea that an informal event, the brain child of Tony Sousa 🌐, promoted solely through LinkedIn posts (lots of LinkedIn posts) and personal invitations could prove to be the get together of the year is ridiculous. Bust sometimes ridiculous works. It was a night filled with reconnecting & making new connections. Executives to Leasing Professionals and every step in between. Operators. Owners. Partners. The true heart of multifamily and it was awesome. When you have the opportunity to get to one of these meet ups, you absolutely should.
