Volunteering keeps so many communities ticking. For this International Volunteer Day, we sat down with Lara Owens, CFCS, CRCM, Enterprise Risk Management Specialist at EarnIn, and chatted about her volunteer work with young children and how that community has improved her life both personally and professionally. Where do you volunteer and what keeps you motivated? I volunteer at our local school during the summer months through the non-profit my husband and I created, Future Community Leaders. What motivates me is seeing a child light up with wonder and curiosity because they’ve experienced something new and can see that the world is bigger than their immediate surroundings. How has volunteering impacted you? Through volunteering, I have learned to always be curious. As we grow up we lose some of our wonder and become quick to form opinions. Children do not have those biases yet. They are accepting of everyone until they are taught not to be. They can teach us all to be more loving and accepting. Are there any skills you’ve gained through volunteering that have helped you at EarnIn? I’ve learned to be vulnerable. Children are unfiltered and honest, and they tell you exactly what they think. Being open to their perspectives is critical to connecting with them. This has also taught me to be vulnerable with my ideas and open to feedback from my colleagues. I value their perspectives and appreciate that EarnIn fosters an environment of curiosity.   Has your volunteering impacted the communities EarnIn serves? The volunteer work I do helps young minds dream beyond their current circumstances. My hope is that they experience something that inspires them to focus their life in a positive direction. This is similar to what we do at EarnIn for our Community Members. They come to us for help meeting their financial needs so that they can begin to consider the possibility of living more. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and gratitude is in the air... After delivering a much-talked-about presentation at a recent off-site, we’re especially grateful for EarnIn CFO, Jacopo Lenzi, right now. So we caught up with him about what he’s thankful for — in life and at EarnIn. Why did you decide to join EarnIn? I had the opportunity to join a company that has an amazing product fit, has fostered a passionate community of customers, and is aiming to re-align financial service to the actual needs of customers (not self-serving business models)… Yes, please. What are you most thankful for so far at EarnIn? The amazing support and patience (lots of patience) of those around me. EarnIn is a very welcoming environment. Despite me being the new guy in town, folks kindly limit their eye-rolls at my obvious questions and wacky ideas, while showing a healthy willingness to reconsider old “truths”. Might be because I’m the CFO and their budget is at stake. But I prefer to think that it is because I work in an awesome work environment. What's your favorite Thanksgiving memory or tradition? When I started dating my now wife, she was working in the restaurant industry. My first real Thanksgiving was having a bunch of haute cuisine chefs in our tiny home kitchen whipping up a ridiculously awesome meal while chatting, drinking, and just being happy. Thanksgivings for us have been less about the outcome and more about the company of friends with as much laughter as we can muster. Wine helps too. Interested in joining Jacopo and the rest of our welcoming team at the EarnIn table? We’re hiring. Check out our careers page for more info on available openings: https://bit.ly/48iksmZ

EarnIn’s Yvonne Chao and Ben LaRocco joined South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and other industry leaders, including representatives from South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, for the signing ceremony of S.700. This new law, the Earned Wage Access Services Act, is the culmination of dedicated efforts throughout the last legislative session to create a meaningful framework for EWA. S.700 offers essential regulatory clarity, ensuring that people in South Carolina can continue to access EWA services when they need them, helping to reduce dependency on high-cost alternatives. With robust consumer protections now in place, we’re optimistic about seeing this model spread to other states. It’s a step forward for responsible innovation, and it empowers a financially resilient workforce.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, a five-day celebration with friends and family during which people light candles, watch fireworks, and enjoy delicious treats. We caught up with Venkatesh, our Staff Machine Learning Engineer in Bengaluru, and discussed his plans for Diwali and his favorite family traditions around the holiday. How do you celebrate Diwali, and what does it mean for you? As a kid and even now, Diwali has always been my favorite festival. I remember my mom waking up early to perform Lakshmi Puja, and the house would fill with the aroma of sweets she made, especially ariselu, a traditional South Indian sweet. A big part of our tradition is also praying to our elders and Lord Vishnu. Diwali holds a deep meaning for us, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, through the story of Lord Krishna and Goddess Satyabhama defeating Narakasura. Diwali often represents new beginnings and growth. Have you celebrated any milestones during the festival this year? This year feels particularly special as I recently got married and will celebrate my first Diwali with my better half. Are there any special decorations you look forward to? We light diyas, traditional diyas made of clay, all around the house and decorate the puja room with lots of flowers during the Laxmi puja in the morning. We also make rangoli in front of the house with diyas surrounding the rangoli. Are there any Diwali traditions that you’ve shared with your EarnIn colleagues? We recently had a session where each of us painted diyas in Bangalore. Some of the folks from the US were also visiting that week so we had lots of fun. We couldn’t be happier to be working with you to bring more light to the world, Venkatesh. Interested in joining Venkatesh on our global team?  EarnIn is hiring. Global Diversity Awareness Month reminds us of the countless ways diversity is critical to growth, culture, and innovation. No one at EarnIn is better suited to discuss this than Danette Buie, Ed.D., our Senior People Practices Partner. Read on to learn how she’s approaching diversity in the workplace these days. What does Global Diversity Month mean to you? I always enjoy participating in Global Diversity Awareness Month because it reminds us of how our unique ethnicities, cultures, heritages, experiences, abilities, and many other identities influence how we see and interact with the world. This month is a chance to reflect on how our diverse backgrounds help us build a more inclusive and understanding society. It’s our differences that help us create deeper understanding and stronger connections. How do you embrace diversity in your personal and professional life? I embrace diversity by actively seeking out and learning from different perspectives. Engaging with people from diverse backgrounds expands my understanding and helps me grow, as these varied experiences shape how I see the world and how I contribute to it. What advice would you give to someone who wants to contribute to creating a more inclusive and diverse environment at work? My advice is first to understand your own strengths and values. From there, focus on building a network of allies and DIB (diversity, inclusion, and belonging) champions who share a similar vision for the broader work. Once you identify those areas to work on, begin chipping away at them. Even the smallest changes in culture or messaging, or creating a sense of belonging, can be life-changing for someone else. Every step counts, and it’s those steady, persistent efforts that create lasting impact. Looking to join a team where diversity is embraced and your perspective has an impact? Celebrating National Coming Out Day with EarnIn's Rainbow Alliance ERG 🏳️🌈 Today, we honor the strength, courage, and authenticity of our incredible team members from EarnIn’s Rainbow Alliance ERG. To mark this important day, we asked a few of our colleagues to share what National Coming Out Day means to them. Here’s what they had to say: 💬 "Coming Out Day means celebrating the courage to be authentic, a journey paved by the unwavering love and support of my Latino family and the LGBTQ community. As a first-generation success, their embrace of who I am has been the foundation of my strength and pride." — Ernesto Lopez (he/him), Sr. Site Operations Engineer 💬 "National Coming Out Day is more than just a celebration of identity—it's a reminder to show up authentically, every day, in every space. As a parent, I understand the importance of being a role model for my children, showing them what it means to live boldly and truthfully. I’ve never waited for a seat at the table. Instead, I’ve created my own space—bold, inclusive, and unapologetically diverse—where new ideas flourish, and the status quo is not just challenged but redefined. The power to change our world begins when we embrace who we are, and lead with integrity, empathy, and the unapologetic bravery to be seen—not just for ourselves, but for our children and those whose voices have been silenced." — Florencia Garcia Carcagno (she/her), Sr. Creative Lead 💬 "National Coming Out Day is a celebration of authenticity for me. As an immigrant from Taiwan, I’m proud that my home country was the first in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. However, across many Asian countries, deeply ingrained conservative values still prevent countless individuals from living openly, as they fear for their relationships, careers, and safety. Experiencing the inclusivity and acceptance in the U.S. has empowered me to embrace and express my true self and I stand in solidarity with those in Asia and beyond who are still fighting for the freedom to come out." — TaiHsu (Michael) Chen, CFA®, MBA (he/him), Sr. Treasury Analyst 💬 "National Coming Out Day is a reminder that we are all multifaceted, and being visible can inspire others to embrace their authentic selves. As someone who didn't always see people like me growing up, I'm proud to help shape a culture where everyone can feel seen and celebrated. It's in moments like these that we signal to each other: it's okay to be exactly who you are." — Steven Cho (he/him), Director, Capital Markets & Treasury At EarnIn, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone is empowered to live authentically. We believe in creating a space where each voice is heard, respected, and celebrated—today and every day. 🌈 ✨

World Mental Health Day is a great day to remind us how important it is to recharge — and that it’s not a one-person job. We sat down with Viki Lin, CSM, Senior Executive Assistant at EarnIn, to discuss Mindful Mates, EarnIn’s Employee Resource Group focused on mental health, and how important mental wellbeing is to her. How do you prioritize your mental health, both in and outside work? I consciously make an effort to set aside time every day to do something that helps me unwind and recharge, whether that’s reading, working out, or crafting. How has Mindful Mates impacted you, and what do you hope it achieves moving forward?  As a lead of Mindful Mates, it has profoundly impacted my experience at EarnIn by allowing me to help create a supportive environment prioritizing mental and physical well-being. Looking ahead, we hope to scale the impact of Mindful Mates by fostering an environment where mental health is prioritized, openly discussed, and understood. By further normalizing conversations around mental health, we aim to reduce stigma and help cultivate a culture where everyone feels empowered to seek support, share their experiences, and celebrate their wellness journeys. Our goal is to ensure that mental health becomes an integral part of our overall culture, where every employee feels seen, supported, and valued as they prioritize their well-being at EarnIn. What advice would you give to someone struggling to maintain a healthy balance between their work and personal life? “You can’t pour from an empty cup” and “slow down to speed up.” These are easier said than done. Even though self-care has become such a mainstream term, it’s challenging to prioritize when we live in a culture that values hard work and productivity. You wouldn’t expect your car to run without gas, so you shouldn’t expect the same for yourself. We’re so glad we have colleagues like Viki to help keep our tanks full. If you’re looking for a career that allows you to prioritize your mental well-being, EarnIn is hiring. From September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month honors Spanish-speaking people and communities across America. We talked with Jazmin Salinas, Legal & Regulatory Affairs Chief of Staff at EarnIn, about why the month matters to her and how the Hispanic community plays a vital role in shaping our industry. What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? Hispanic Heritage Month holds profound significance for me. This month allows me to honor the sacrifices of those who came before me — my parents, grandparents, and ancestors — who worked tirelessly, often in the face of adversity, to build a foundation for future generations. Their perseverance and determination have deeply shaped who I am and how I approach my work. How do you feel seeing more Hispanic leaders emerging in various industries? It’s inspiring, as it reflects progress in diversity and inclusion. It shows that barriers are being broken, offering the next generation of role models while enriching industries with fresh perspectives and ideas. What role do you think Hispanic professionals play in the future of this industry? Hispanic professionals play a vital role in shaping the future of the Earned Wage Access (EWA) industry by bringing diverse perspectives that help create more inclusive and accessible solutions. Our cultural insights enable us to address the unique financial needs of underserved communities, driving innovation and ensuring the industry serves a broader audience more effectively. We couldn’t agree more. Looking to help shape the future of Earned Wage Access with Jazmin and the rest of the Hispanic community at EarnIn? With our recent incorporation efforts allowing EarnIn to directly hire employees in Mexico City, Mexican Independence Day has never meant more to us. 🇲🇽 So we sat down with Kevin Gamboa, Software Engineer in our Mexico City office, to talk about how he celebrates the historic day and how our CDMX office is creating new opportunities in fintech for locals. What significance does Mexican Independence Day hold in Mexican culture? Besides the historical significance, we love that date because we have parties with family and friends, sing classic Mexican songs, have a blast with the traditional “pozole,” and at midnight we do the “Grito de Independencia.” It’s a fun day. Is there a favorite memory you associate with it? When I was at school, we had a parade in which all the boys and girls participated, either by dancing or doing other activities. They dressed us in typical clothes from those times, which gave a special touch to the event. It was really fun and made us feel very patriotic. What about EarnIn's office in Mexico excites you most? It gives more opportunities to Mexican people to find a good place to work and show how talented we are. The fact that more Mexican engineers will join the team and will be able to experience the great culture that Earnin has to offer. Why should others in Mexico consider joining EarnIn?  I think the company lets you have a good work-life balance, and that’s not something very common these days. The people here are always glad to help you, and the mission of the company is noble. Looking for a career like that? National Women’s Equality Day is an important day for honoring women in the workplace and beyond.  We sat down with Karolina Banna, Head of Banking at EarnIn, and talked about how necessary it is for better gender equality. What does Women's Equality Day mean to you? For me it’s very simple, it means equal opportunities for great roles, equal pay for equivalent jobs, and equal accountability for at-home work (childcare, managing a house, etc). Women’s Equality Day provides an opportunity for us to think about how we are driving action in our own teams through our hiring practices, pay, promotion reviews, and encouraging equal access to family and parental leave. How do you envision a more inclusive and equitable future for all women? I envision it with data, and data is critical. Ensuring that we monitor access to coveted roles, pay, and promotions for different gender identities is really important. In the UK (where I’m from), large companies have to publish data on gender equality, and I think this is critical to creating action. What advice do you have for women who aspire to enter the Tech Industry? There’s nothing you can’t learn to do. You don’t need to have all the skills in a job spec, you just need to be curious and willing to dive in and learn. I am a big believer in mentors who can push you to try new things and go outside your comfort zone! What would you say to someone considering joining EarnIn? If you love data, solving problems, and collaborating with smart, lovely people, this is the place for you! Looking for a career where equality is baked into the mission?
