A new study led by DCI's Andrew Armstrong, MD, MSc, and Susan Halabi, PhD, found that a DNA sequencing test for advanced #ProstateCancer patients can distinguish between patients with poor and favorable prognoses. "Incorporating genomic profiling into clinical decision-making may enhance personalized treatment strategies and inform the design of future clinical trials," Armstrong said. https://duke.is/9/6qmd Duke Health | Duke Department of Medicine | Duke Department of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics

A new study led by E. Shelley Hwang, MD, finds DCIS patients who carefully monitor the precancerous cells are no more likely to develop #BreastCancer after two years than women who undergo surgery to remove them. “These early results from our study give us reassurance that active monitoring is safe in the short term and that the cancers that are diagnosed during active monitoring are detected at an early stage,” Hwang said. https://duke.is/v/8kb5 Duke Health | Duke Surgery

New research suggests that estrogen plays a role in allowing hormone receptor-negative #BreastCancer to grow by limiting the immune system's ability to attack cancer cells. It also makes immunotherapy medicines less effective.
