Dr. Kelly Wackerle found her love of neurosurgery in the operating room. Through using her hands, she saw she was able to make a tangible difference in her patients' lives. That passion is what drove her through her seven-year-long fellowship at Duke University where she was just one of three to graduate in her class. Now, Dr. Wackerle brings her expertise to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center as a spine specialist.

When Novant Health assistant nurse manager Cale Banks found a concerning spot on his back, he had the unique experience of being a patient in the operating room he helped manage. He was shocked when his biopsy came back as Stage 2a malignant melanoma, but relieved when he found big city care at Novant Health Cancer Institute – Rowan, just across the street from his job. After a year of immunotherapy under the care of his new friend Dr. William Brinkley, Cale recently rang the bell signaling the end of his treatment. https://lnkd.in/eEvRPg6W

This Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for the extraordinary efforts of our team members and volunteers who rallied together in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Together, 94 Novant Health team members selflessly dedicated over 1900 hours to support our neighbors in Western North Carolina and: 💜 Served over 300 patients by offering onsite emergency and wellness care in addition to virtual pediatrics, obstetrics, behavioral health and more. 💜 Filled approximately 200 prescriptions. 💜 Administered about 750 vaccines to support the health and wellness of the community. Your hard work and kindness embody the true spirit of community, making a lasting impact when it mattered most—thank you.
