A few practices that I follow: 1. Once the goals are set, encourage coachees to make their own decisions, this creates a sense of ownership & accountability. 2. Promote critical thinking - so they can make better decisions. 3. Building resilience - facing the outcomes of their decisions whether positive or negative. 4. Gradually reducing my support so they can apply the learnings.

Here's what has worked, based on my experience - Teach, Don’t Solve: Equip them with frameworks for decision-making, not just answers. Set Boundaries: Create milestones for when they should take the reins. Celebrate Wins: Reinforce their confidence in handling challenges independently. Remember that the goal is to empower independence, not dependency.

I’d gently remind them, “My goal is to help you trust your own wisdom and strength.” I’d focus on teaching them tools for self-reflection, decision-making, and problem-solving, celebrating every step they take on their own. Over time, I’d gradually step back, showing them they’ve always had the power within themselves.

Empowering clients to become more independent is a key aspect of effective coaching. Set clear goals: Define specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound objectives. Encourage self-reflection: Prompt them to analyze their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Provide tools and techniques: Equip them with practical strategies for problem-solving and decision-making. Offer constructive feedback: Provide honest and helpful feedback to support their growth. Gradually reduce support: Gradually decrease the frequency of coaching sessions to foster self-reliance. By fostering self-awareness, skill development, and confidence, you can empower your clients to become more independent and achieve lasting success.

I help my clients set realistic and SMART goals that allow them to achieve results. I coach them to practice daily introspection in order to ensure that they can keep track of what wasn’t achieved so that they can re-prioritize their goals and achieve them. This empowers them to gradually take baby steps, make progress and improve themselves to become accountable and responsible for attaining their goals.

We would dive into the anxiety of not having any coaching services for some time, and extract what was learned during previous coaching relationships, and now can be applied - increasing awareness about the strengths and skills, and decreasing the stress of independent decision making. We would search for the taste of freedom!
