In the final roundup of 2024, Sarah surprises Miriam, and they reflect on highlights from the year, personally, professionally and for Women in Pharma. It can be easy to get caught up in a frantic rush to the Christmas finishing line but traditionally this darkest period of the year involved closing things down and going inwards. One such German-speaking tradition is Sperrnächte or Dunkelnächte, a period of 13 nights in the run up to 21 December, the Winter solstice (and Miriam’s birthday!). Each night invites a ritual of introspection and self-reflection, one night for each month of the year with a different theme for each month – from structure and discipline to freedom and innovation, from spirituality to courage and rebirths and so on. Through this process you organise the year just gone and then from 21st December to 1st January you let go of anything you need to whilst pondering what you want to manifest for the year ahead. If you like the sound of this ritual, this is a nice framework to follow - https://lnkd.in/g9QKXd24 Thanks Anne-Frédérique Van Kemmel for the recommendation. The Role Model Awards for 2025 are now OPEN – nominate yourself or a colleague at https://lnkd.in/eS6qVA3z - deadline is 31st January. 🌟 And finally as we say goodbye to 2024, we’d like to thank you all for your support and encouragement as we continue to provide a space for like-minded people in the industry to connect and support each other whilst raising the bar on health and medicine for future generations. Happy holidays everyone and see you in the new year. #womeninpharma #weinspirepossibilities #weignitepotential #whatispossible Stay in touch with Women in Pharma events by subscribing to our mailing list https://lnkd.in/eBjYEG-k
About us
There are many brilliant women working in the pharma industry! Each of us has a story of triumphs and frustrations, of beliefs and people that have held us back or propelled us forward. In our own ways we are all trying to improve the lives of others and fulfil our potential. And yet despite all the progress made, there’s a long way to go. Whilst there are more women than ever working in our industry, many do not make it to the highest levels(1). At the same time medicine is founded on the assumption that the male body is representative of humans(2). Women can suffer for years misunderstood and poorly treated(3). There is still a lot to do to create a medical system that equally understands and meets the needs of women, as well as men(3). With women shouldering more family responsibilities(4) whilst navigating their way up the ranks, it is easy to feel that the challenge is too big for us to take on. That is unless we do it together. What if we come together to share our stories and ideas? Identify what needs to change and collaborate to make it happen? Influence how our industry evolves? How can we ignite potential? Inspire possibilities? What could be possible? That’s why we are creating W.i.P - Women In Pharma. We want to work with other women, and men, who want to make our industry and medicine work equally for men and women. Our dream is to create a network where we can: - INSPIRE each other by sharing our stories - SUPPORT each other to fulfill our potential by overcoming what is holding us back - SHAPE how our industry evolves to better serve womenkind - for our mothers, sisters, daughters and granddaughters We can’t do this alone so please join our group. We will be hosting our first event early in 2023 - watch this space. 1. https://bit.ly/3ezEjGT 2. https://bit.ly/3qozO4R 3. https://bit.ly/3cUiZvA 4. https://bit.ly/3B0gmjA
