Our vision is to see a greater representation of black professionals across all business levels in the Pharma industry.

About us

Black Pharma is a Social Enterprise which has a vision to see a greater representation of black professionals across all business levels in the Pharmaceutical industry. We aim to facilitate industry access and professional development for talented black professionals to be successful in Pharma. Research has shown that only 7.3% of board directors on UK life science companies are racial minorities, and just 3% of employees in the average US biotech company are black. Pharma needs more diversity. We work to facilitate access to the industry through apprenticeships, student industry placements, graduate schemes/roles, entry-level roles and experienced roles. We do this by advising on available opportunities across the industry, as well as securing work experience and job opportunities with our Partners. In addition, we provide practical support with job applications, CVs and interview preparation, to ensure that talented black individuals are well positioned for success. At Black Pharma we are committed to ensuring that black professionals not only gain access to the industry, but that they are also well-equipped to successfully progress in their career. We do this by supporting career development through professional mentoring, consultations, webinars and trainings. Our mission is to ensure that every black professional has an equal opportunity to maximise their potential and make a positive impact.

Black Pharma had the privilege of partnering with and attending the 5th Impact Africa Summit (IASPharma) in Lagos, Nigeria. This year's theme, “Expanding the Pharmaceutical Value Chain through Inclusion of Sub-Saharan Africa in Global Clinical Trials,” resonates deeply with our mission to increase representation and inclusivity within the pharmaceutical industry. The summit provided a platform for engaging discussions with over 500 regional and international researchers, pharma leaders, regulatory bodies, and drug manufacturers. We explored ways to enhance human resources, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks to foster innovation and sustainable industrialisation in Sub-Saharan Africa. Key Takeaways from IAS 2024: · Disease Burden vs. Clinical Trials: Africa bears over 20% of the world’s disease burden but hosts only about 2% of global clinical trials. This disparity highlights the urgent need for increased support and infrastructure. · Support for R&D: Government and pharmaceutical company support for research and development in Sub-Saharan Africa is crucial for building robust infrastructure and participating in global trials. · Regulatory Harmonisation: Countries in the Sub-Saharan region are making significant strides in harmonising regulatory frameworks to ensure swift and efficient approvals. Why Emerging Markets Matter: · Faster Growth: The rapidly growing population in Sub-Saharan Africa is driving increased demand for healthcare. · Unique Needs: Leveraging the region's diverse demographics and unique disease burdens can accelerate drug development and improve global healthcare outcomes. At Black Pharma, we are dedicated to addressing underrepresentation in the industry, bringing diversity of thought, and fostering inclusivity in research and healthcare. We are proud to collaborate with IAS and Xcene Research, pioneers in the industry, specialising in the Sub-Saharan Africa market. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and driving meaningful change together. #BlackPharma #DiversityandInclusion

As we close out the year, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on the lessons we’ve gained from Together We Can: Breaking Glass Ceilings. The energy and insights shared at the Black Pharma Annual Summit were a testament to the power of collaboration, storytelling, and action. Through the incredible contributions of our keynote speakers, panelists, and participants, we explored not only the barriers that exist in the pharmaceutical industry but also the pathways to overcoming them. From strategies to navigate senior leadership to fostering true allyship, the takeaways were invaluable for anyone striving to make a difference in their career and community. But reflection is just the beginning. The real challenge lies in how we use these learnings to shape the future: • What actions can you take to drive meaningful change in your career or organisation? • How can we each sponsor or mentor and uplift others on their journeys? • What goals will you set in 2025 to continue breaking barriers in your own sphere of influence? This is a moment to think ahead, not just for ourselves but for the communities we represent and the legacy we want to leave. Let’s carry forward the momentum, supporting and inspiring one another to shatter even more glass ceilings in the coming year. We’d love to hear your thoughts: What’s one lesson you’ll carry into 2025? How will you turn reflection into action? Let’s continue the conversation and, together, redefine what’s possible.
