Encouraging the pursuit of science through our two innovation centres and Science Oxford.
About us
The Oxford Trust is an independent charity, established in 1985 by entrepreneurs Sir Martin and Lady Audrey Wood, co-founders of Oxford Instruments. Our mission is "to encourage the pursuit of science". We do this through our innovation centres – the Wood Centre for Innovation and the Oxford Centre for Innovation – for science and tech start-ups and our Science Oxford education and engagement programmes The Trust runs two innovation centres in Oxford to support science and tech start-ups: The Wood Centre for Innovation in Headington's Health and Life Sciences District and The Oxford Centre for Innovation in central Oxford. Our Science Oxford Centre is the UK's first integrated indoor-outdoor science centre for primary and early years children. Alongside the centre, the team runs an extensive outreach programme to primary schools across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and a STEM Careers Programme for secondary students. Hot on the heels of The Oxford Trust's announcement of the 'new' Oxford Centre for Innovation being developed at Blue Boar Court is the bigger news that its scheme for the Aspen Building at Wood Centre For Innovation have been approved by Oxford City Council. Exciting times at the Trust .. but then they always are!
🧬🔬 🙌 Last night our plans for the new #Aspen Building, to be built at our Wood Centre For Innovation, were resolved to be approved by Oxford City Council’s planning committee to provide #science and #tech companies with additional #startup and grow-on #laboratory and #office space! 🏢 Designed in response to the increased demand for mid-sized grow-on laboratory space in Oxford, particularly within the globally significant #HeadingtonScienceCluster, the circa 17,000 sq ft (1,600 sq m) building will deliver a mix of flexible CL II level laboratory and office space spread over two floors, to service growing #lifescience and #deeptech companies. 🎒In addition, the building will include a new STEM resources and preparation room, which will enable us to support the increase in demand for our Science Oxford outreach delivery to #schools and engage local communities with #STEM. Stephen Burgess, CEO: “We are thrilled that our planning application has been given the green light. The Aspen Building will create exceptional spaces for exceptional science. “The new facility represents a significant investment for the Trust and underlines our continued commitment to the Headington Science Cluster. It will mean we will be able to support further #scientific #research, create local #jobs, and contribute to #Oxfordshire’s impressive #innovation ecosystem. It will also allow us to expand the impact of our Science Oxford education programme to inspire even more young people about STEM.” 🙏 Our huge thanks to the team ADP Architecture Carter Jonas BSG Ecology LANDSHAPE, Glanville Consultants Ltd, Gleeds, Sylva Trees and CPW. We are always looking to help early stage companies get a start where we can. So our refurbishment of Blue Boar Court is being carried out by Kale Interiors Ltd under Stuart Kale. Looking forward to seeing the changes as we get ready to welcome clients in Q1 2025.
🙌 Big news! We have a #newhome for our Oxford Centre for Innovation! We have agreed a 10-year lease for Blue Boar Court in #Oxford’s city centre to house our centre to continue supporting the growth and development of local #science and #tech start-ups. 🚀 This reaffirms our commitment to #nurturing the next generation of #innovators, to provide them with smart, affordable and #flexible #office space, admin and 1:1 business support, as well as a collaborative working environment to foster a creative #community and promote success. 🏢 Located on Alfred Street in the heart of Oxford, the new Centre will offer 13,000 sq ft (1,210 sq m) over four floors of modern, well designed private office spaces, meeting rooms and co-working space. ✅ To ensure a smooth transition for businesses located in our current Oxford Centre for Innovation in nearby Macclesfield House, which we sold in May to Oxford Business College, we are in discussion with several companies, operating in technology areas as diverse as #medical imaging, #AI, #Quantum and #environmental, to relocate to the new premises. Stephen Burgess, CEO: “This is a pivotal moment for us and the growing community of #entrepreneurs in Oxford. The new location of the Oxford Centre for Innovation will not only provide start-ups with the space they need to scale but also strengthen #Oxford’s position as a world-class hub for science and technology innovation. We’re proud to play a role in fostering this #ecosystem and excited to welcome a dynamic group of start-ups to our new centre." The Centre is expected to be ready for occupation from March 2025 and will be managed by Oxford Innovation Space. 🙏 CBRE UK and Freeths LLP Oxford acted on our behalf. ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/e-gVYQxP
