  • Big changes are on the horizon for planning in the UK 🏘️ The release of the updated #NPPF marks a significant step toward addressing the UK housing crisis, and yesterday, our Deputy Head of Planning, Christopher Pattison, shared his expert insights live on Sky News. During his interview, Chris tackled some of the key topics shaping this reform, such as increased housing targets and greenbelt development, before emphasising the need for strategic community engagement. "Think about how you can engage with these reforms creatively," he said. "Look at your community, what is your housing need? Why don't you come forward and say this is what we want, and engage with the development community and you'll find that many are willing to listen." The updates to the NPPF aim to create more opportunities for housebuilders, reduce housing costs through increased competition, and bring much-needed development closer to key cities to boost productivity and ease recruitment challenges. We are happy to announce that we have secured planning permission for Phases Two and Three at Darwin Green! 🎉 This represents a significant step forwards in the delivery of a sustainable housing-led urban extension of Cambridge and a substantial package of public benefits including up to 1,000 new homes, a community building, retail uses, secondary and primary schools and a 49 hectare country park. 🏘️ Our Planning Team successfully led the planning strategy from initial pre-application engagement through to the planning appeal process and robustly addressed concerns raised regarding the impact on the demand for potable water use and associated abstraction. The project has very much been a strong team effort with Alison Wright leading on planning strategy, Mike Derbyshire providing planning evidence at the appeal stage and Harriet Wooler and Sophia Nitschke supporting throughout. Well done team! 👏 #Planning #PlanningPermission #TeamSuccess Image courtesy of Allies and Morrison 📷

🌟 Reflections on a Transformative Morning: The Productivity Engine Conference 🌟 Yesterday morning’s Productivity Engine Conference in Oxford brought together a dynamic mix of thought leaders, industry experts, and innovators to explore actionable strategies for driving economic growth and addressing Oxford’s productivity challenges. Martin Reeves took centre stage with “The Oxfordshire Story,” building on insights from Christopher Pattison and Sue Foxley about Oxfordshire’s potential as a global innovation hub. While Chris Pattison highlighted the transformative role of space, innovation, and infrastructure, and Sue Foxley revealed housing affordability and infrastructure gaps as key barriers to attracting top talent, Martin Reeves emphasised the need for bold leadership and collaboration. His vision:✨ a future where ambition is the only limit, powered by connecting Oxfordshire’s diverse strengths to drive sustainable growth and inclusivity. 🤝🏡🌍 One of our event highlights? The roundtable sessions, where conversations were so engaging they continued long after the sessions concluded! 💬 🏘️ Living in Oxfordshire: This session, led by Christopher Pattison, Alan Penfold, Laura Stone, and David Rudlin, explored how housing can drive productivity. Key discussions included: 🌿The role of innovative housing models like garden cities and co-living in building sustainable, vibrant communities. 🏢The importance of creating housing at the right locations, price points, and scales to attract talent and improve equity. 🏠How investment in housing directly impacts the economic success and social mobility of the region. 💼Working in Oxfordshire: Led by Sue Foxley, Sam Potts, Ayokunmi Ajetunmobi, PhD, Angela Calvert, and Jenny Gardner, this session focused on scaling Oxfordshire’s innovation economy. Highlights included: 🔬The critical need for infrastructure to support high-growth science and tech sectors. 🏬Tackling challenges around retaining top talent and scaling companies locally rather than losing them to international hubs. ⭐The role of connectivity and collaboration across the Golden Triangle to position Oxford as a global leader in innovation. Yesterday's conversations were just the start. The message is clear: we need collaboration, leadership, and fresh ideas to transform Oxfordshire into a beacon of productivity, innovation, and inclusivity.
