Updates

  • Tis the season to let your hair down and celebrate... which is exactly what the Glanville team have been doing with their end of year celebrations.  Visiting ‘The Paper Mill’ in Apsley and ‘The Old Bank’ in Oxford, the teams have had a chance to let their hair down (physically and metaphorically), celebrate the successes of the last year and strengthen their bond and friendships. After all, Glanville is only the company it is, due to every single team member.

  • We’re on a planning approval roll...  We’ve just had another successful full planning consent received, this time for a proposed 162sqm café and drive-thru at Kingsway Business Park in Quedgeley, Gloucestershire.    Working closely with Robert Hitchins Limited, Savills and SRA Architects Ltd to develop the proposals, we helped to assess the transport impacts of the proposals on the surrounding highway and pedestrian and cycle networks.    The proposed development is sited on the eastern corner of the junction between Rudloe Drive and Naas Lane and forms Unit 12 of the former RAF Quedgeley site. This site is currently being developed as a mixed-use residential and commercial development following its closure in 1995.    A big congratulations goes out to Anthony Jones Director of transport planning projects within our Bristol office and David Kemp Associate Director in our Hemel Hempstead office, for all their hard work. If you’ve got a project that you’d like help with, please head to our website and get in touch with our friendly team: https://lnkd.in/eKXkvPPz  To find out more about this project, please click here: https://lnkd.in/eRhmdVqn

  • It may have taken four years, but we can now celebrate the great news that full planning approval for development at Silwood Park in Ascot (subject to completing the S106) has been granted.   The proposal entails a change of use and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Silwood Manor at Silwood Park and the attached stables to provide 21 apartments. They also propose the retention, refurbishment and extension of Silwood Lodge and a total of 14 new homes (set to be built within the grounds of Silwood Park) after the demolition of the current outbuildings, including parking, access and landscaping.       Designed by EDGINGTON URBAN, a big congratulations needs to go to Joanne Nayler and the team at Beechcroft DevelopmentsAleksejs Persins (in the Civil Engineering Team, who provided planning support to Beechcroft Developments Ltd and NSS IV (Investments) Ltd on the SuDS (Surface Water) and Foul Water drainage strategies), Asher Davey (who did the Transport Planning) and Jack Dunesby (for addressing all the planning comments relating to the Flood Risk Assessment report) at Glanville.

  • For this month's ‘Meet The Team’ feature, we’d like to introduce you to Graeme Turner, an Associate within our Transport and Highways Team based at our Oxfordshire office.  Graeme joined Glanville & Associates (as it was then named) in 1995 as a fresh-faced, recently graduated engineer. Roll forward almost 30 years Graeme has seen Glanville undergo a significant expansion to the multi-disciplinary, multi-office consultancy we are now all familiar with.  For much of his career, Graeme’s main role has been in Highway Engineering, where he has worked on a variety of schemes and has gained extensive knowledge. Graeme also looks after our Road Safety Auditing service that Glanville can offer, which in recent years has gone from strength to strength and continues to be something he is very passionate about.  Outside of work, Graeme is a keen cyclist and lover of the outdoors especially his garden. He is also an avid supporter of Reading Football Club, but let’s not hold that against him!  To get in touch, you can email him at: gturner@glanvillegroup.com

  • The Glanville team are celebrating another successfully secured planning permission, this time to deliver 42 better-than-net-zero homes in Milton Heights, near Didcot. Developed by Greencore Homes this landscape-led project - designed by HTA Design LLP will offer 27 open market and 15 affordable homes, along with new accessible green spaces for both residents and the local community. It was a great team effort, but special mention goes to Vicky Walsh (née Thompson) who did the transport and highways work and Lucy Moxon and Mike Griffin in the Civil Engineering Team, who provided planning support to Greencore on the SuDS (Surface Water) and Foul Water drainage strategies.

  • Project throwback - The Old Laundry, Wellington College, Berkshire – a building for the Education and Public Sector. The client’s brief for the development of  Wellington College was to create a unique area  by grouping buildings in an established woodland setting. The architecture would have a distinct look that differentiated in style from the more formal, historic college buildings. We helped to provide a naturalistic approach in the form and materiality and provided various options for consideration during the ‘option study’ stage.  There was a willingness for the design to use sustainable materials, hence why a timber structure was proposed for the buildings and a cross laminated timber and Glulam structure was used to develop the buildings.
