We’re thrilled to announce that our MPS Building at Auckland Normal Intermediate is a winner in the Architectural Design - Education Buildings category at the 2024 Architecture Masterprize Awards. Each year the Architecture MasterPrize celebrates the best in International Architecture. We are honoured to be selected from the thousands of submissions from 81 countries. Triggered by a fire that destroyed a century-old hall, the building is part of the initial phase of a comprehensive redevelopment of the school. The intent was to create a multi-purpose building which would create a new heart for the school and be suitable for generations to come. This project was a true labour of love. We couldn’t be prouder to see it recognised on the global stage. A huge thank you to our incredible clients, collaborators, and everyone involved in bringing this vision to life. Exciting progress is being made at Te Kamo High School, Whangārei. We're thrilled to see the redevelopment taking shape for the Ministry of Education New Zealand. The Blomfield Satellite unit is already buzzing with activity, and Teaching Block 2, Te Whare Wānanga, and their stunning outdoor learning spaces are almost complete!   A huge shoutout to Canam Commercial Ltd for their meticulous attention to detail - their craftsmanship has truly brought this project to life! Working alongside the talented design team and Mana Whenua, we’re proud to have created 16 spacious classrooms and 10 resource and breakout areas that are a truly vibrant reflection of the surrounding community and whenua. Once completed this project will provide the school with 1850m² of indoor learning space and 970m² of covered outdoor areas.   During our most recent walkthrough, the excitement was contagious as everyone looks forward to the grand opening next year. We can’t wait for the school to make this space their own! Mesh Consulting Limited Structus Matakohe Architecture + Urbanism Dodd Civil Consultants Ltd Beca

Leadership | Project Delivery | Client Side Project Management

Last week we celebrated a roof shout at De La Salle College marking a significant milestone worthy of recognition. Well done to Cassidy Construction , particularly Project Manager - Matthew Gray, Site Manager - Jeremy Wallwork, and the great team behind you on getting to this point on programme. Once completed, the new facility will provide 19 teaching spaces consisting of standard classrooms, music studio and practice rooms, dedicated food technology spaces, as well as teacher resource and small group learning areas. The facility also includes a health and wellbeing centre for the students. I'm very passionate about this project as it will replace older facilities and enable better learning space for our tamariki to prosper. I was lucky enough to be involved in this project from my early days at Rubix, leading the design during the lockdown, procurement and now delivery phase. An acknowledgement for Thomas Songhurst who joined the project since construction commenced, showing grit and partnership to help deliver this project. Shout out to our clients at the Catholic Diocese of Auckland who continue to partner with us and trust us to deliver their vision, you are an absolute pleasure to work with. Many thanks to our other partners and consultants who are equally proud of this milestone after all the mahi they put into this over the past three years: Architect - DLM Architects Ltd Structural and Civil - Structus Services - Mesh Consulting Limited Quantity Surveyors - Barnes Beagley Doherr Ltd Fire and Passive – Holmes Group Geotechnical – Tonkin + Taylor Planner – Campbell Brown Planning Hydrant design and mains design - Babbage Consultants Limited #Rubix #GreaterProjectPossibilities #ProjectManagement

New detailed design for Te Unua Museum of Southland! We're excited to share a new detailed design for your new Te Unua Museum of Southland. The updated design includes a larger education space and first-floor terrace, more office and meeting spaces, and a redesigned café with better indoor-outdoor connection. It looks a little different to the first concept we showed you, but this is gives us solid plans for a structure that we can realistically bring to life with focus on buildability and cost certainty. We think this design is one that we can see Southlanders really connecting with, it fits beautifully into the landscape of Queens Park and is the modern, revitalised and impressive facility we set out to create. Council is currently working through some budget challenges for the museum, and will be consulting with the community on some options to determine the level of cost increase that is appropriate. More details on the consultation will be available in the coming days, to give you a chance to have your say!

Auckland Radiation Oncology is developing a new facility in North Shore Auckland. Structus has been engaged by Focusplan to provide engineering services for this complex project. The development includes construction of two new linear accelerator bunkers with up to 2.3m thick concrete walls and roof, plus upgrading and redevelopment of the existing building comprising two storey offices over single storey basement carpark. The bunkers involved extensive research on innovative ways to construct the shielding structures, including collaboration with experts in the UK and Germany. The final solution landed on insitu concrete roof and walls with precast concrete permanent formwork on the outer face, suspended RC ground floor slab, on RC ground beams and RC bored piles. The existing building earthquake strengthening includes fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) and steelwork strengthening of slabs, walls and roof. The refurbishment includes strengthening and shielding for provision of a new CT Scanner, extensive fitout and new porte cochere. We are pleased to be working again with the quality team of builders at Argon Construction and thankful to Focusplan and RCP for the opportunity to be involved with this exciting project. Structus engineering services for this project include the following from concept design through construction monitoring: - Bunkers structural engineering - Revit 3D modelling - Bunkers fitout and seismic restraints - Civil engineering - Temporary works engineering Existing building engineering including the following: - Detailed Seismic Assessment - 80%(IL2) earthquake strengthening - Revit 3D model of the building - Redevelopment structural engineering - Building component seismic restraints Auckland Radiation Oncology, Focusplan, RCP, Mesh Consulting Limited, Initia #team #construction #engineering #structuralengineering #engineering #radiationoncology #healthcare

There's been six months progress on site since our last post and we're pleased to share that construction is now nearing completion of the new Blomfield Special School at Kamo High school. The building is the first stage of a much larger redevelopment project at Kamo High School for the Ministry of Education New Zealand   The three classroom building is located at the new entrance to Kamo High School, a deliberate design move ensuring that the Blomfield students are fully included in the world in which they are learning. Physically linked by an elegant timber and steel canopy spanning the length of the front facade, it connects Blomfield with the new two-storey teaching blocks still under construction.   The striking brick designs are based on the pātiki within a geometric tukutuku pattern, designed to create interest and encourage investigation. The pattern symbolizes growth and positive pathways ahead. Some of the pātiki have been left blank, as a notion for the tauira (students) of the future that lies ahead of them and seizing the opportunities infront of them on their journeys at Kamo High School. We look forward to sharing some more images of the completed building soon. • A recent site visit to De La Salle College provided our team with invaluable insights into a project that had been seen only on drawings by some of those involved. The tour offered a firsthand look at the transformation of a concept into exciting structures, which are looking great. Various aspects of the project were taking shape on site, including the new 3 storey Classroom Block, refurbished Blocks K & J and extensive landscaping, all within a constrained site on an operational campus.  Construction in progress includes concrete filled fire rated steelwork, exposed precast concrete panels and flooring, while the challenging driven steel piles with concrete overbores and stepped ground beams have been successfully completed. The site visit facilitated productive discussions and collaboration among team members, including design considerations, construction challenges, and innovative solutions, leading to enriched understanding and ideas for future projects.  The afternoon was topped off with a nice hearty meal and good chat. Thanks to Cassidy Construction for hosting us and for the great work on this project to date. Structus are providing structural, civil and seismic engineering services on this project.
