During the action in #COP29Azerbaijan, it was emphasized that the most vulnerable sectors, the local communities, and the indigenous peoples, can barely afford to stand by and wait. There is a united demand for the global south to collaborate to strengthen the call for accessible, equitable, and adequate financing that is apt for the community's needs. #ClimateJusticeNow #PayUpforLossesandDamages #CommunitiesSpeak

𝗡𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲! 𝟮𝟭 𝗡𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 – The NTFP-EP and community partner, Nida Collado of Macatumbalen Community-Based Forest Management Association (MCBFMA), attended the side event organized by Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA) on “Locally-Led Adaptation for Gender-just Climate Finance”. The event emphasized the need to break the notion that women are always victims and showed that women are agents of change by inviting several speakers from across regions and even across the broad spectrum of stakeholders. Resource speakers from Indigenous Peoples organizations and women-led local communities presented their locally-led initiatives to respond to the changing climate. Amidst the legislative challenges that women are subjected to, they have developed resilient methodologies that organically arose from their grassroots initiatives, such as establishing a seed bank to preserve their indigenous seeds, maintaining their indigenous knowledge systems and practices that are weaved in their food security, and further improving the capacities that women have to give them more opportunities in meaningful participation in local decision-making processes. Also present at this event were global leaders with whom Collado interacted meaningfully post-event to share about her community’s on-ground realities and locally led initiatives. All sentiments lead towards amplifying the voices of local communities and Indigenous Peoples’ strong demand for gender-just climate finance. #TheFutureIsIndigenous #LinkingPeoplesandForests #CommunitiesSpeak

𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮, 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 #𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵𝗔𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗶𝗷𝗮𝗻 | 𝗡𝗧𝗙𝗣-𝗘𝗣 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! NTFP-EP accompanies community leader Nida Collado, fondly called Nay Nida by colleagues, in amplifying the voices of Indigenous Peoples and local communities from San Vicente, Palawan, Philippines. At a side event on gender-just climate solutions, Nay Nida listened to compelling stories from women worldwide. A woman from Pakistan shared how climate change erased an entire village, linking it to sexual and reproductive health. A Kenyan woman leader called for protecting women as custodians of traditional knowledge, underscoring their essential role in preserving cultural and ecological heritage. Aligning climate and biodiversity actions according to Nay Nida, needs to highlight the critical need for direct access to climate finance, which is hindered by lengthy bureaucratic processes and the artificial divide between mitigation and adaptation strategies. Nay Nida champions the importance of securing land tenure, noting that without it, forest dwellers cannot commit to sustained forest protection.
