Condia (formerly, Bendada.com) just published a piece I had initially titled, "AgTech Investment in Africa is Climate-tech Investment" In brief, it's about how LPs and GPs are climate financing agri-tech startups in Africa, a sector that has historically received peanuts from venture investors over the years. By the numbers AgTech founders in Africa that could also parlay a climate angle into their product/pitch received more than half of all the money that was invested in agri-tech in the last twelve months or so... Can anyone tell me what is off with this particular picture? Link to read the full thing (it's brief). Data from Briter's #AgBase dataset. https://lnkd.in/dcYpc7Qw

Private equity in MEA agri-food-tech is rapidly evolving, but needs to show distributable returns if it is to maintain momentum. The elusive ‘exit’ that has plagued other sectors raises difficult questions for agrifood-tech too. Does this sector lend itself more to M&A? How disruptive can food and agriculture tech really be? Why would anyone buy an Ag start-up? Are agrifood-tech valuations tempered by real economy dynamics? Join Hossam Allam, Managing Partner, Climate Resilient Africa Fund for a thought-provoking discussion at #WorldAgriTech MEASA, exploring how to make outsized returns in this oldest of industries: https://lnkd.in/eGEak4DZ

How can farmer aggregation unlock our food systems?🧑🏾🌾 Smallholder farmers are the backbone of African agri sector, producing over 70% of Africa’s food. But, these farmers are constantly facing challenges in their day-to-day that limit their productivity and in turn, their incomes. CRAF backs technology and solutions that solve for everyday realities faced by smallholder farmers, especially ones that fortify farmers against the inevitable adverse impacts to their livelihoods caused by climate change 🌱
