Africa may contribute just 3% of global carbon emissions, but it faces the harshest climate impacts. This reality, however, is not the end of the story—it’s the beginning of a transformative opportunity. With abundant natural resources and the ingenuity of its people, Africa is uniquely positioned to redefine what it means to tackle the climate crisis. We’re thrilled to partner with The Flip, Catalyst Fund, and Delta40 Venture Studio to bring you The Green Print, a documentary series spotlighting the incredible founders and ventures shaping Africa’s green future. In the latest episode, we meet Bilha Ndirangu (Great Carbon Valley), Duncan Kariuki (Octavia Carbon), and Hiro Iwanaga (Talus Renewables). Their innovative solutions not only address Africa’s climate challenges but also hold global significance, proving that the continent can lead the fight against climate change while creating millions of jobs. At ACV, we’re proud to support and champion these innovators. Telling stories of progress across Africa. Founder, The Flip

Africa has the opportunity to become a global leader in the fight against climate change AND create millions of jobs in the process. There is increasing demand for industries powered by renewable energy. Meanwhile, African countries have abundant access to renewable energy sources, a lack of legacy grid infrastructure, and the youngest & fastest-growing working-age population. Green industries present an opportunity to have a positive economic impact locally and deploy technology that has broader climate implications globally. Today's episode of The Flip is our first documentary in a series we're calling The Greenprint - our exploration of climate innovation across Africa - in partnership with Delta40 Venture Studio, Catalyst Fund & Africa Climate Ventures. In this episode, we visit with three founders building in Kenya: Bilha Ndirangu is the CEO of Great Carbon Valley, which is looking to bring several green industrial projects to Kenya. Duncan Kariuki is the CPO of Octavia Carbon, the global south's first direct air capture company. Hiro Iwanaga is the CEO of Talus Renewables, the maker of modular green ammonia manufacturing systems, whose first project was deployed in Kenya earlier this year. I've left the link in the first comment of this post to watch the full episode on YouTube 👇

African Climate-Tech | Host of The Energy Talk | Included VC - Cohort Member (Class ‘24)

Where is equity funding for climate tech in Africa going? Digging up the answer shocked at how much money is going into East Africa compared to the rest of the continent. The more I dug into this trend I realized that a large ecosystem supports climate-focused startups in the region (favorable policies also play a large role). This funding disparity makes a lot more sense when you learn the largest hub for climate tech in Africa is in Nairobi 🇰🇪 Around the same time, I found a podcast from The Flip on venture studios for climate tech in Africa. Venture studios take a very active part in the early-stage growth of companies and the concentration of these studios in East Africa is a large part of the reason the region is producing more fundable climate tech startups than the rest of the continent. Justin, the host, featured 3 Venture Studios in the podcast: Africa Climate Ventures (ACV): Founded by James Mwangi, ACV has the most hands-on approach working with founders from ideation and identifying areas where Africa can be globally competitive in climate solutions, advocating for decarbonization across various sectors. Delta40 Venture Studio: Led by Lyndsay Holley Handler, Delta40 is part of Factor[e] Ventures (is building a West African team!) and focuses on supporting founders who have experience in building products that address energy access and climate challenges, particularly through renewable energy solutions. Lyndsay is a former founder herself with an exit to ENGIE Energy Access (Africa) under her belt. Catalyst Fund: Maxime Bayen (a seasoned operator) emphasizes financial inclusion and climate adaptation, Catalyst has accelerated 81 companies across 19 markets since 2015 and have a particular focus on Agritech, a sector I am still learning about. I recommend listening to this episode and leaving the link in the comments. #climatetech #cleantech #agritech #africanVC Source: The Flip & WeeTracker

🌍 𝐀 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 #𝐂𝐎𝐏29: 𝐔𝐍 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 6.4, 𝐏𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 🌱 The UN’s approval of Article 6.4 at COP29 is a game-changer for global climate action. It launches a global carbon market, where countries and companies can trade verified carbon credits. This market will play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and accelerating progress toward net-zero goals. But what does it mean in practice? 🛠️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 6.4? In simple terms, Article 6.4 allows countries and businesses to offset their emissions by investing in projects that cut, avoid, or remove CO₂ emissions elsewhere. These projects could include: ✅ Renewable energy projects that replace fossil fuels, ✅ Reforestation efforts to capture CO₂, ✅ Energy efficiency initiatives that reduce emissions, or ✅ Advanced carbon removal technologies like direct air capture. This framework is a huge step toward coordinating global climate efforts, giving nations and companies clear incentives to reduce emissions and invest in sustainable projects worldwide. 🔎 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 For Article 6.4 to succeed, not all carbon credits can be treated equally. The market will only be effective if projects are: ✔️ Measurable and transparent, ✔️ Deliver real and long-lasting climate benefits, ✔️ Held to rigorous international standards to ensure credibility. Whether it’s planting forests, building solar farms, or using innovative carbon capture technologies, the quality and integrity of credits must remain the cornerstone of this system. Without this, we risk undermining trust and climate impact. 🌍 𝐀𝐧 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 For African countries, Article 6.4 represents more than just a climate solution—it’s a chance to unlock economic opportunities. Africa is uniquely positioned to lead in this new global carbon market, thanks to its: 🔆 Abundant renewable energy potential, with high solar radiation and vast wind corridors, 🌳 Natural resources for reforestation and land-based carbon sequestration, 👷 Young and growing workforce, ready to drive green innovation and project development. By investing in carbon projects, African nations can create sustainable industries that deliver jobs, incomes, and economic growth—while positioning themselves as leaders in the fight against climate change. As the global community works toward net-zero, Africa’s role is critical—not just as a participant, but as a key driver of solutions that benefit both the planet and its people. Let’s make sure the opportunity is seized. 🌱 Learn more about COP29 and Article 6.4. https://lnkd.in/eK9Z79kS #COP29 #ClimateAction #CarbonMarkets #NetZero #Africa #Sustainability
