Perth’s Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges project is nearing completion and in recognition of its commitment to Country, it has been officially renamed Boorloo Bridge, recognising Boorloo as the Noongar name for Perth. The bridge is due to open on Sunday 22 December. The two cable-stay bridges over the Swan River for pedestrians and cyclists have been designed and built by the Causeway Link Alliance, comprised of WSP, Main Roads Western Australia, Civmec and Seymour Whyte. The project recently won the Planning Institute of Australia’s WA Awards for Excellence, in the category of Planning for Country, with the jury praising “the remarkable scale Causeway Link Alliance’s commitment to interpreting the Noongar culture and history.” Boorloo Bridge will provide a safer crossing for the more than 1,400 cyclists and 1,900 pedestrians who currently travel on the narrow path of the Causeway Bridge daily. This year, Australia has continued progressing towards a greener and more socially-conscious future. We've witnessed increased pay transparency through WGEA's Gender Pay Gap data; the introduction of a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard; and the release of detailed decarbonisation guidance for infrastructure projects, to name a few examples. WSP's team is passionate about helping societies to thrive in making real change decarbonising infrastructure, meeting our own ambitions around carbon reduction emissions, and helping our clients do the same. There's still work to do, but in this final newsletter for 2024, we take a moment to reflect on some of the top insights as we work together to create Great Places, for Life. #GreatPlacesForLife #DiversityAndInclusion #NetZero #SocialValue #FutureReady #WeAreWSP

In Australia, the CSIRO projects that around 240 mines will cease operations by 2040. However, although mine closure is inevitably the end of a mine’s operation, there are ways for it to achieve a meaningful second life delivering successful long-term outcomes for the environment, communities and economy. Here, WSP’s mining and mine closure experts - Paul Williams, Bob Boshrouyeh and Kim Ferguson - share a simple, practical framework for assessing low-emissions options for post-mining land use: https://lnkd.in/gcczCBcp 📷: A mine that was repurposed to a heritage tourist destination #MineClosure #Mining #EnergyTransition #NetZero #Innovation #WeAreWSP WSP Mining
