That's the wrap! The fourth edition of the annual Run the Tan 2024 showcase charity event presented by Liberty was held on Sunday.
The event was a huge success with over 2000 participants and spectators attending and over $68,000 raised for local mental health charities.
There were some amazing performances from our elite athletes and everyone who took part. Lauren Ryan won the women's elite race in 11:34 which was only 4 seconds off breaking the all-time record held by Jess Hull. Irish athlete Andrew Coscoran took out the elite men's in 10:28 which was only 2 seconds outside the all-time top 10 fastest laps around the iconic Tan Track, and Michael Roeger broke his own record in the Para Elite race with a time of 11:01.
There were another strong contingent of sporting idols and celebrities participating in the Celebrity Challenge and supporting the cause for mental health including; comedian and radio show host Dave Hughes (who hasn't missed a Run the Tan event since it started in 2021), Ash Williams, Alicia Loxley (Channel 9 News), AFL greats Campbell Brown, Steven Baker, Billy Brownless, Essendon’s AFLW Maddie Prespakis and Melbourne Renegades Mackenzie Harvey and soccer legends Archie Thomson and Andy Brennan. Jason Warne returned in honour of his late brother, Shane, who was an inaugural ambassador for the charity event. Mental health advocate, and former Miss Universe Olivia Molly Rogers also joined in on the fun in the celebrity challenge. There were lots of laughs, good times, and positive vibes!
The Battle of the Schools was another highlight with 18 schools and over 320 students taking on the tough 3.827km course. Wesley took the honours in the boys and Ruyton snapped up the victory in the girls.
Big thank you to all the incredible sponsors, partners, and volunteers who helped support and deliver the event.
Congratulations to everyone who participated and helped raise awareness and funds for mental health.
It's not too late to make a donation. Help us achieve our target of $100k 🙏
