Meet Will Jeffery, Head of Engineering and Asset Management at the Port of Southampton, and a dedicated ABP colleague who has made charity work a core part of his life for over 20 years. From marathons to cycle rides, Will has taken on annual challenges to raise awareness and funds for meaningful causes. This year's highlight? A 100km cycle ride around the Isle of Wight in support of #ANDYSMANCLUB#ANDYSMANCLUB, a charity breaking the stigma around men's mental health. For Will, this event was deeply personal. Diagnosed three years ago with dystonia – a neurological condition that affects mobility – he faced the challenge head-on with the help of colleague Andrew Hallam MEng (Hons) CEng MICE. Andrew suggested tackling the ride together on a tandem bike, allowing Will to focus on pedaling while Andrew steered. Their tandem, affectionately named 'Until the Cowes Come Home,' became a symbol of teamwork and determination as they completed the challenge together. 🚴♂️💪 Will says: "I think Mental Health, despite being well publicised for sometime, has still got a stigma attached in talking openly about it, especially with men. Thinking about my own my experience. My condition, came on really quickly, I didn’t know what it was and it was really scary. My mental health suffered as a result. "It's great that we voted for #ANDYSMANCLUB#ANDYSMANCLUB to be our Charity of the Year in Southampton. I was determined, despite my condition, to take part and raise funds." For anyone considering charity work, his advice is: 👉 Choose a cause close to your heart. 👉 Set a goal, no matter how small. 👉 Inspire others by sharing your passion. Through years of charity work, Will and his teams have raise over £150,000! An incredible effort! Will says: "Taking on these challenges reminds me of the power of collective effort. Whether you're participating, organising or simply cheering others on, everyone plays a part in making a difference." By sharing his journey, Will hopes to inspire others to embrace challenges, support one another, and contribute to causes that matter. #CharityWork #Teamwork #MentalHealthAwareness #Dystonia #RoleModel #InternationalMensDay

Suicide Rates: Men are more likely than women to die by suicide, with men accounting for approximately 75% of all suicide deaths in the United States. Barriers to Seeking Help: Men are less likely to seek help for mental health issues, with studies showing that only about 30% of men who experience mental health problems seek professional help. Impact of Stigma: Societal expectations and stigma around masculinity can prevent men from expressing emotions and seeking support, leading to untreated mental health issues. Fundraiser Spotlight ⚽️ We want to say a big thank you to Finnigans F.C., who have hosted fundraising days at Bloom, raffles, and are also choosing us as the venue for their prize giving - all of which raise vital funds to help us continue to provide free, fast, and effective mental health support. Here's what Speedy & Scully, the Finnigans F.C. Managers had to say: “Finnigans was intended to be a positive thing coming out of the loss of a key member of the team to suicide a few years back. If we can promote the work of the charity, at the same time as raising some much needed funds that’s a great outcome, one that can potentially mean that someone who needs help gets it at the earliest stage." If you're a sports team, community group, or someone who wants to fundraise or help us raise awareness of what we do, email ella@opendoocharity.com to find out more.

Delcuttering and Organizing your Spaces The hardest part when a space needs attention is not making the decision to declutter and organize but to actually do it. - but once you have decided go for it. I recommend setting aside a small amount of time to do this once a week and start with one area at a time. I like to clear the floor first and then start on one corner and work my way around the room. Once all the unwanted and or broken items are gone then the organizing can begin. It’s a great feeling when it’s done and you can use the space again. There are charity organizations that need items and many of them pick up too from your front door. If it's too overwhelming we can help - just ask me how www.wearesws.com - we don’t judge ! #delcutteringinsp #declutterimg #getorganized #organizingtips #pantryinspo #purging #atlorganizer #organizinghelp
