Four months of working alongside 12 exceptional early-stage founders culminated in an unforgettable final two weeks together in Perth. These founders—innovators across fields like computational biology & chemistry, nanoengineering, optics, hardware and software—have inspired me with their vision, perseverance, and ability to invent or improve the future. Over this journey, I’ve had the privilege of learning so much from them, and the investor presentations at the end of the program filled me with pride. Particularly exciting is the potential to unlock real-world impact through our close partnership with Rio Tinto. The opportunities to create value in sectors like mining are immense, and I’m confident that the collaborations sparked during this program will lead to transformative breakthroughs. I’m also deeply grateful to the Government of Western Australia for their support of our nature tech portfolio. Their commitment to leveraging nature and biodiversity as tools to solve the climate crisis is inspiring, and it aligns perfectly with the innovative spirit of this cohort. Together, we’re tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges with cutting-edge solutions. More than anything, though, I’ve been moved by the friendships that have blossomed within the group. It’s been amazing to see this cohort grow not only as entrepreneurs but as a close-knit community. I know these connections will last long beyond the program, and I look forward to seeing what we’ll all achieve together in the years to come. Ag tech is booming and Australia is chock full of impressive ag scientists. SparkLabs Cultiv8 hosted their annual showcase of new companies being incubated in Orange. There was discarded waste nutraceutical ingredients (Niall Blair at Alkiira), bovine methane reducing feed supplements (Bovotica), carbon technology solutions (Francois Visser and Mariki Visser at Carbon Friendly ), palm oil alternatives (Levur) and carbon neutral nitrogen fertilisers (Nitronic). We are thrilled to have been chosen to be part of @FoundersFactory’s and @WA Government’s first nature tech cohort. It is recognition for Nitronic's progress already, and we look forward to working closely with the local government and a seasoned startup investor in Founders Factory. Nitronic is developing sustainable, decentralised fertilizer production technology that will delink fertilizer prices from commodity prices and enable farming communities to manufacture their own fertilizers. Nitronic's aim is enhance Australia's food security by reducing the reliance on imported fertilizers. Nitronic has also developed its process to sustainable produce explosives for use in the mining industry. Nitrogen #fertiliser production was a pivotal invention of the 20th century, increasing crop yields around the globe. While fertiliser contributes significantly to feeding the world's population, its production is also responsible for 2-3% of global #GHGemissions. Nitronic is delivering a solution by producing nitrogen fertiliser without fossil fuels, hydrogen generation, high energy inputs and GHG emissions. Nitronic's technology will enable farmers to mitigate price volatility and reduce the agri-food system's dependence on fossil fuels.
