Tom Collier's innovation journey began over a decade ago when, as a university student, he heard firsthand accounts of the devastation and deforestation caused by palm oil plantations. accionvegana by these stories, Tom dedicated his research to finding a sustainable alternative to palm oil. The result of this focused effort? Levur. Utilising synthetic biology and precision fermentation, Levur harnesses the power of yeast through brewing techniques (similar to beer production) to develop nature-identical oils sustainably, including a palm oil alternative. Levur's approach not only addresses the environmental concerns associated with palm oil production but also paves the way for a series of sustainable innovations across various industries. Ready to learn more about this technology? Watch Levur's pitch to discover their future plans. #agritech #biotech #innovation #sustainability Joanne Barber | Aprile Wenke

Nitrogen fertiliser has been a cornerstone of modern agriculture, with the Haber-Bosch process responsible for feeding about 40% of the world's population. Whist hailed one of the most significant inventions of the 20th century, the process is the most energy-intensive commodity chemical, contributing 2-3% of global hashtag #GHGemissions. Stuart Gunzburg, a passionate scientist and CEO of Nitronic, set about utilising his love of science to provide a solution. His ingenuity has led to the development of sustainable nitrogen fertiliser. Nitronic's technology is simple and streamlined, operating at low temperature and pressure. This enables decentralised production close to end users, addressing both environmental concerns and food security challenges. Discover how Nitronic is lowering fertiliser emissions while contributing to Australia's food security. #agritech #foodsecurity #fertiliser #emissions #innovation

A great article in The Australian highlighting the strategies outlined by the recent 'Land of Plenty' position paper. The Australian Food and Agriculture Industry Taskforce, which includes SparkLabs Cultiv8 Partner Jonathon Quigley, have identified factors that are impacting the industry's sustainability and the three keys to unlocking Australia's potential as a food powerhouse. The recommendations include: • Increasing the adoption of climate-smart farming • Strengthening of sovereign supply chains, • Stronger, more diversified export strategy While the sector faces hurdles, we see tremendous potential for growth and innovation in Australian agriculture. Collaborative action between industry and government to coordinate efforts is essential to capitalise on these opportunities, ensuring a robust and competitive future for Australia's food industry.
