We did it! It has taken three years of building, testing, and running multiple iterations, but our expert team of remote sensing spectral geologists and data scientists have built what are arguably the barest Earth models commercially available, with no geographic restrictions, and no annual subscriptions. Why is this such an important development? Well, when you are looking for potential mineral exploration targets using satellite remote sensing, extracting the most representative spectral information from the Earth’s surface becomes a bit of a ‘big thing’. As such, having a model of the Earth’s surface with natural cover at its absolute minimum, and optimal signal to noise ratio is pivotal. Our newly-launched commercial ASTER Bare Earth+ has been created from the entire archive of ASTER multispectral imagery, carefully custom processed through CGG’s very own 500 petaFLOPS HPC powerhouse – reducing our processing times from months to days and hours. This means that every pixel is constructed from thousands of sample pixels using our tailored machine learning algorithms, optimizing signal to noise ratio and minimizing natural cover. Rest assured, every process and every output has been steered and heavily scrutinized by our remote sensing scientists, spectral geologists, and mineral systems experts to ensure integrity of the process and derived outputs. We hence ensure the barest Earth is derived with the most reliable spectral information, delivered in full, in rapid turnaround, without annual subscriptions. It was my pleasure and an honour to be invited to speak at this AMIRA P1217 Project "Evaluation of #TSF #Monitoring #Technologies" technical workshop. I presented "Applying #InSAR to #Tailings" and wrote the session with two things in mind: 1. How can we use InSAR for "Meaningful Monitoring"? 2. If I were a Tailings Engineer or Steward, what would I want an InSAR Scientist to tell me before I implemented the technology? This is largely the topic I have dedicated my working life to for almost 5 years. I am very passionate about it and was thrilled to pass on some of those key learnings from my experience and that of CGG Satellite Mapping in this session. As we wrap up a great week at Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, we reflect on this years theme of ‘Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining’ and thank our customers for your trust and support.
