🗺️ A large-scale geothermal survey is currently underway in Münster, Germany. Geothermal exploration enables the use of decarbonized energy by harnessing heat from the ground in cities. High-tech equipment takes the exploration of underground heat potential in urban centres to a new level On behalf of Stadtwerke Münster GmbH, DMT is using 36,000 geophones (WiNG Nodes) from Sercel to determine the geothermal potential of around 348 square kilometres in the city’s densely populated area. The WiNG nodes and the associated software save our customers time and money in underground seismic exploration. A key feature is that the nodes provide higher-resolution data that can be used to visualise the deep structures much more accurately. This results in accelerated exploration processes, a precise view of geological structures at great depths and faster predictions on deep geothermal potential. The survey in Münster is therefore a showcase project for accelerated processes and the industrialisation of services in geothermal projects. With a fleet of 17 vibro trucks of various sizes and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, which is probably unique in Europe, DMT GROUP is helping to ensure that geothermal potential can be determined quickly, cost-effectively and with excellent data quality, even in large urban centres. Bénédicte Vasse, Christophe Roland and Sophie Lostanlen-Nouy from Sercel visited the project team in Münster last week and filmed the night-time surveys of the vibro-trucks in the city centre. Interviews with Dr Maik Tiedemann, CEO DMT GmbH & Co. KG and CEO Business Unit Energy & Resources of the TÜV NORD GROUP, Dr Ruediger Misiek, Dr Boris Dombrowski and other experts on site will be published in March 2025 in a case study documenting the search for geothermal energy in Münster using our high-tech equipment.
