We’ve partnered with Vertone to research and better understand what drives the expansion and growth of sustainable retail start-ups in Europe. Using data gleaned from our latest Westfield Grand Prix competition, we analysed almost 200 young retail companies to highlight key trends, challenges and opportunities in the evolving retail landscape. Our key learning: the future of retail is right here – and it's sustainable, innovative and driven by young, female entrepreneurs! 📈 Omnichannel expansion: Retail start-ups are blending online and offline channels to enhance customer engagement and drive growth. On average, they explore new distribution channels after 4-6 years of operations. 🌐 Global reach: Start-ups are expanding internationally. Germany and Austria are leading the way, with 61% of their start-ups selling products internationally. ✅ Sustainability at the core: 85% of start-ups are committed to environmental, social or animal welfare impact. 👩💻 Female leadership: 66% of sustainable start-ups are founded or co-founded by women, and 60% are led by junior entrepreneurs. 🛍️ Consumer education: Transparency and engagement are key for start-ups to build trust and promote responsible consumption. By embracing omnichannel strategies, committing to sustainability and expanding internationally, these start-ups are not only transforming the retail landscape but also setting new standards for responsible business practices. Westfield Rise, our retail media agency, is launching a new AI-powered solution that can measure the drive-to-store impact of advertising campaigns at our destinations. For the first time, brands can now gauge the performance and effectiveness of their physical ad campaigns and activations with the same precision as they can measure digital advertising. This solution relies on behavioural observation, using image analysis technology developed in partnership with French start-up digeiz. Our team of data scientists have developed algorithms based on artificial intelligence capable of segmenting and analysing visitor journeys in our shopping centres. Leveraging GDPR-compliant data, it allows to measure brand campaigns’ performance by time slot and aggregated visitor profiles, and accurately measure how much store footfall is being driven by a campaign or activation, as well as in-store time. The technology is already deployed across 20 Westfield shopping centres in Europe, empowering brands to: ⚡Target audiences more effectively ⚡Optimise marketing strategies for maximum ROI ⚡Outperform current campaign success rates – brand activations by Westfield Rise currently deliver on average 27% more in-store visits As Westfield Rise turned two this year, this new solution showcases our retail media agency’s commitment to providing brands with data-driven campaigns and actionable insights to evaluate campaign performance, drive footfall, and build meaningful customer engagement. Check this out! 🥊 Last month, crowds of sports fans were treated to a world championship boxing match at Westfield Forum des Halles! It was a great night of international sport in the French capital, and the first time since the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games that a major boxing match took place in the French capital. French junior middleweight boxer Bakary Samake, at just 19 years of age, roundly defeated Australia’s Wade Ryan, a 34-year-old veteran, for the WBC Silver Super Middleweight belt. Around 5,000 spectators watched the fight under the Canopée at Westfield Forum des Halles, with the international broadcast live on ESPN+ and RMC Sport. This was the second time Westfield Forum des Halles has hosted a free international boxing event, and highlights our passion for celebrating sports and active lifestyles, bringing people together for unforgettable, inspiring, and energizing experiences. We’re delighted to have won the award for “Best Refurbishment” at last night’s MAPIC awards, for the expansion of Westfield CNIT! Designed in partnership with the architecture firm Cro&Co Architecture and unveiled in May 2024, the 45-shop extension to Westfield CNIT opened up 9,000 sqm of new retail and dining space, featuring exclusive new brands and gourmet food concepts. It also provides direct access to La Défense’s new RER E train hub, making Westfield CNIT another gateway to the business district and supporting its environmental transition. The MAPIC awards took place last night in Cannes, in the south of France. They are France’s premiere awards for the retail real estate sector, celebrating excellence, innovation, creativity and the industry’s most sustainable and visionary projects. 6️⃣0️⃣👏 One of LA's premier shopping and lifestyle destinations, Westfield Century City celebrated its 60th anniversary this fall! Westfield Century City was constructed in the early '60s on land previously used by 20th Century Fox for a movie studio. It has gone through many radical improvements since then, including a two-year, $1 billion remodel that was completed in 2017, further establishing it as a key player in the surrounding communities and contributing to the city's regeneration. To mark the occasion, the team there threw a huge party, taking visitors back to its founding year of 1964 with live music from the '60s, historic photo ops, free gifts and custom menus at restaurants. Among other exciting experiences offered, the first 64 visitors to Westfield Century City’s Aesop received a free gift. Carlyle Avenue had exclusive vintage home décor pieces from the 1960s and items at retro prices. Squishable had 19.64% off almost everything. Dining venues had also designed customized deals, with Piece of Cake offering three desserts for $19.64, and butter pecan ice cream (the best-selling flavour of that year) for just 64 cents at Hokey Pokey LA. 📷 Wondering how Westfield Century City has evolved since 1964?
