⭐️ Today, we officially launched the #ELIF #CLSI network! The event brought together Community-Led Social Innovation (CLSI) practitioners and enthusiasts to explore this approach that empowers #local communities to co-create solutions for unsatisfied social #challenges and needs. 🔍 What is CLSI? It is social innovation from and for the community. It focuses on local empowerment, collaboration, and developing solutions tailored to specific needs. 🗣️ We learned from 6 ELIF CLSI selected projects, showcasing how local #communities can address pressing needs through #innovation and engagement. Our expert panel emphasised the value of a European CLSI network to foster #collaboration, share knowledge, and scale impactful solutions. Key takeaways of the event: 🔸 Harnessing local talents and knowledge is vital for impactful change. 🔸 Training and supporting community members ensure #sustainable impact. 🔸 Inclusive collaboration and meaningful participation among stakeholders are essential. 🔸 Measuring impact is essential for replicating and sharing successful initiatives. An effective approach is using a hybrid evaluation model that combines internal with external evaluators. 🔸 Each territory is unique—replication requires adaptation, not copy-pasting. 📌 Be part of the conversation! Join the ELIF forum: https://lnkd.in/e_ZjvMBk A huge thank you to everyone who made this launch possible. New research by Marija Roglic, Daniel S. Lacerda and Florence Palpacuer shows how local actors can respond to Euro-skepticism by bridging the gap between EU-level 🇪🇺 policies and #local concerns 🗣️🌱 This new research from Croatia 🇭🇷 illustrates how local actors can engage constructively with EU institutions, offering a potential way to bridge the gap between EU-level policies and local concerns. It shows how local actions can influence EU #policies to benefit farmers 🍃 by addressing biased technical measurements – an approach we call “playing the scales”. 👉 Read the full discussion paper on our website: https://lnkd.in/dKUAMGzV
🚜 How 'Playing the Scales' Empowers Local Actors to Influence EU Policy In the face of rising Euroscepticism and the surge of far-right parties in the 2024 European Parliament elections, the disconnect between EU policies and local concerns has become increasingly evident. Our recent study, featured in the Organization journal's special issue on Public Value, introduces the concept of 'Playing the Scales'—a strategy where local actors, such as farmers, engage with EU institutions to reshape policies in their favour. By challenging biased agri-environmental measurements, Croatian farmers successfully influenced EU regulations, demonstrating that constructive engagement can bridge the gap between local needs and EU policies. This approach offers a viable alternative to the rejectionist narratives gaining traction across Europe, emphasizing that addressing the democratic deficit doesn't require abandoning democratic principles. We recommend consulting Alessandro Sancino's editorial in the same issue to understand this strategy and its implications for public value creation. 👉 Read our full discussion paper here: https://lnkd.in/daVPqtJw 👉 Access the academic article in Organization here: https://lnkd.in/dpRTABH6 👉 Listen to our SciSpace generated podcast discussion here: https://lnkd.in/dciKZxjK #PublicValue #EUPolicy #LocalAction #DemocraticEngagement #PlayingTheScales Co-authors: Daniel S. 🌍 This week, we celebrate the contributions of migrants worldwide and reflect on the challenges they face. With 281 million international migrants globally and a rise in displacement due to conflict, instability, and climate change, the need for collective action is greater than ever. Migration is not just a challenge, it’s a catalyst for development. Migrants boost economies, fill labor gaps, and enrich our societies culturally. Regular migration pathways can unlock potential while safeguarding rights and dignity. ✨ Let’s work together to create safe, inclusive communities that celebrate the resilience of migrants and the interconnectedness of humanity.
