Meet our instructor of this weekend’s “Additive Footwear Design: FDM and Resin” workshop, Kedar Benjamin. Kedar has 5 years of experience with Houdini and 2 years of experience as an independent computational designer in the footwear industry. In 2022, he created the world’s first AI-designed 3D-printed shoe, Basilisk, printed by Zellerfeld. This workshop explores 3d printed footwear design using procedural tools, allowing students to create professional-level manufacturing-ready 3d models of the highest quality using Houdini and blender. Students will learn about a variety of manufacturing technologies and will learn to unlock their full potential. In the workshop, we will use Sidefx Houdini and Blender to procedurally create 3d printable shoes that maintain manufacturing constraints through parametric methods. Helical Landing, also known as the Billow Museum, is a 2024 landmark in Wanning, Hainan, China, designed by Höweler+Yoon Architecture, LLP. This 21,500-sq-ft coiled structure serves as a viewing pavilion and community center, following the natural slope of the site to offer panoramic views of the reservoir and mountains. Inside, the building includes exhibition spaces, a café, conference rooms, and more. Busan Opera House Competition Proposal by OODA | 2011. The design for the Busan Opera House by OODA engages itself with the natural topography, articulating a multi leveled building and seamlessly integrating the different cultural activities and programs. The dominant flow circulation, flexibility and concept strategy enables full accessibility as it creates spaces that blur the difference between building and landscape, intensifying the fluidity between interior and exterior spaces, indoor and outdoor venues. The formal approach is driven from the natural proportion of the program merged with inspirational themes (like sea shells – music – and butterfly typical pacific fish) that allows the building to assume its own unique charm and identity.
