About us
We design places and products: immersive environments, compelling destinations, and considered goods. George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg founded our studio in 1980 with an emphasis on interior design and have since expanded our firm into a multidisciplinary practice that addresses multiple layers of human experience. With offices in New York and Toronto and a team of more than a hundred creatives and professionals, we design buildings, interiors, landscapes, lighting, furniture, objects, and graphics with a focus that goes well beyond what things look like, to how they make people feel. Our studio and founders have earned many honours, including being appointed Officers of the Order of Canada, inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame, and named among the world’s most influential design studios by Wallpaper*, Elle Decor, Hospitality Design, and the Business of Fashion. But, the trophy shelf is not our primary concern. We’re always focused on what’s next, and continually search for the new and innovative, as we strive to conceive the memorable experiences of tomorrow. Our clients include leading hotel and resort brands, developers, retailers, restaurateurs, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and creative individuals looking to stand apart from the crowd. With an approachable, collaborative way of designing and solving problems, we believe in dreaming big and vaulting over obstacles to arrive at fresh new solutions. We bring the same attention to detail to every project, from tabletop objects to expansive new developments, and actively look for partners who share our passion for doing better than what has been done before. For us, it’s all about designing the world we want to live in.

Exclusively for WWD, we shared the story behind Hoshikage, our debut tableware collection for NORITAKE CO., INC. After hosting a dinner party at their beach house in Amagansett, George and Glenn took their guests to their rooftop for a glimpse of the night sky. Looking up, constellations shimmered, and the celestial scene sparked the inspiration for Hoshikage, Yabu Pushelberg’s first tableware collection designed for Noritake. Combining the mysteries of the cosmos with the intimacy of dining, our Hoshikage collection—a 19-piece set of dining, salad, and bread plates, bowls, and mugs—invites diners to experience the intergalactic wonder of outer space while indulging in the simple pleasure of a meal… or a midnight snack beneath the stars. Thank you Sofia Celeste for your words and photography by Sean Davidson. https://lnkd.in/et97RpTi

On a steamy summer day in Manhattan, George and Glenn sat down with Document Journal Editor-in-Chief Nick Vogelson to share the equally funny and tender parts of their origin story in design, along with what drives their vision for the studio's future. Thank you, Nick Vogelson and Document Journal, for sharing who we are, and Nathan Bajar for capturing our spirit. https://lnkd.in/evVwippc

For Vogue Living, George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg opened the doors to their newly renovated Toronto home in Bennington Heights. What started as Yabu sketching ideas during a Zoom call turned into a complete reimagining of their second level. Over the course of two years, they transformed the space into a cozy social area with plenty of seating, a secondary kitchen, and art from all chapters of their lives. Now, more than ever, Bennington is where they bring people together. “To us, imperfectly perfect is actually perfect,” says Pushelberg. Yabu agrees, “Everything here is a reflection of who we are and our stories.” https://lnkd.in/gWWwYtyG

Featured as a corridor of inspiration in the Financial Times, the entryway of George and Glenn’s New York apartment, designed by Richard Meier, unintentionally exudes sci-fi-like energy. While the apartment’s corridor wasn’t intentionally created with this in mind, its smooth Indian wood paneling, backlit corners, and their Anish Kapoor lacquer dish at the end of the hall were highlighted as contributing to a subtly futuristic atmosphere. The Yoshitomo Nara Retrospective at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao After encountering Yoshitomo Nara’s paintings, “Pee” and “Pee - Dead of the Night” in a magazine feature of George and Glenn’s home, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao reached out to the duo to contribute to the Yoshitomo Nara Retrospective. As long-time admirers of his work, they were honoured to be included in a celebration of his enduring legacy. George and Glenn’s Toronto Home, Bennington Heights Three years in the making, Elle Decor Italia is the first to step into George and Glenn’s newly renovated Toronto home. Re-designed to support their love of hosting, the guys began the personal project after a handful of impromptu dinner parties proved their affinity for entertaining outgrew the layout of their space. Today, Bennington is their living laboratory of experimentation, where their curiosities, adventures, and own designs gather in harmony. Thank you Laura Maggi for the words and Clément Pascal on photos.
