“One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned through my personal and professional experiences is the importance of taking a long-term view on both people and situations. Instead of stepping in to fix things immediately when someone struggles—especially if they’ve claimed to have the skills or experience—I now hold back from that urge. My focus is on building a team that can grow and succeed together for the long haul, not just on solving today’s problems. By developing strategies that foster confidence and resilience, I aim to empower each team member to handle challenges with skill and independence.”

A big shoutout to the trade association members who joined the Trade Association Forum webinar with me this morning to explore how to build strong, collaborative and happy teams in these changing times. We focused on five key principles that can help unlock team effectiveness: 1 Making time to prioritise understanding what’s going well and what needs work in the team 2 Knowing the team’s defining purpose   3 Building trust and psychological safety  4 Everyone taking accountability 5 Finding ways to bond as a team In fast-paced organisations like trade associations, the collective needs of the team can be hard to prioritise. But the world of work is changing, old norms are being rejected, and teams spend less time together than ever before. So it’s more important than ever to create space and time together to focus on the deliberate decisions that impact team performance and motivation. We had a great discussion with lots to think about. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Making a GREAT team takes time and dedication. Not just one person can take care of everything but when your whole team can support each other, that’s when you can grow together. Example: When your team can come together, sharing their strengths and weaknesses. Come up with a strategy on how you can be successful together by using each other’s strengths and weaknesses, there isn’t ANYTHING that can stop you!

🚀 Leveling Up Our Team Dynamics with the Belbin Model 🤝 We just finished a great team-building session using the Belbin team role model, and it was a real eye-opener! We got to see our individual strengths and how we can work better together. 🌟 Belbin’s model highlighted the roles we naturally fit into, helping us align, support each other, and now we’ve got a common language to talk about our strengths and improvement areas. 🧩 🔍 We’re used to refining our analysis, but this session was a great reminder that teamwork needs that same attention. By understanding our roles better, we’re setting ourselves up for more effective collaboration, stronger connections, and smarter ways of working together. 💡 Thank you to Cecilie A.
