Seattle needs to be bolder, go higher & get dense. I'd like to explain why, but Vancouver's Uytae Lee already did a great job. My favorite reminder from his video: 'if you live in any SFH, you are living in luxury.' There are so many lots ready for vertical living space. This is a city that once raised an entire hillside neighborhood AND the hill to then build it back with skyscrapers. Lets do it right. Build it now, make light rail & last mile work with more riders. One Undershaft, or the Trellis as it is less formally known, forms a part the most recent tranche of proposed building developments in the City of London. At a height of 309.6 metres (1016 feet), the same height as the Shard, it seeks to challenge the Shard’s dominance of the London skyline, becoming its larger and more box-like dramatic foil to the North of the river. It has, however, been hit with an objection owing to the loss of daylight to surrounding green space. Do we renew existing buildings and add floors to retain the embodied carbon of the existing structures, or must we construct entirely new buildings? This was the main question that the recent Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) conference explored in London. CTBUH’s data shows that the average height of the 100 tallest buildings in the world has grown from 344m to 410m over the last 10 years. In 2023 there were 57 cities building new structures over 200m tall. That shows an upward trend, but does this mean that everything needs to be tall?
