After 20 incredible years with Virtual Marine, we are honoured to celebrate the remarkable career of Capt. Anthony Patterson as he steps into retirement. From his early days as CEO to his current role as Managing Director of Training, Tony has been a driving force behind our success. Under his visionary leadership, Virtual Marine grew from a start-up to a global leader in simulation-based safety training, pioneering advancements in emergency preparedness through innovative simulation technology. Tony’s contributions to the maritime industry extend far beyond our walls. At the Marine Institute’s Centre for Marine Simulation, he expanded commercial training opportunities for challenging maritime environments. His expertise was shaped during an esteemed career with the Canadian Coast Guard, where he rose from Cadet to Commanding Officer and served as a Senior Staff Officer specializing in Search and Rescue and is the current Chair of International Marine Simulation Forum. As we bid farewell to Tony, we’re excited to announce that his legacy will continue with Dawn Patten stepping into this leadership role. Dawn brings exceptional expertise and passion to the position, and we look forward to sharing more about her vision for the future in the coming weeks. Tony, your dedication, pioneering spirit, and unwavering passion have left an indelible mark on our team and the industry. While this isn’t goodbye, as you’ll continue to teach courses and collaborate with us, we want to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude and admiration. Thank you for everything, Tony. You will always be part of the Virtual Marine family. Wishing you all the best in this exciting new chapter! 💙⚓

Managing Director, Virtual Marine Training at Virtual Marine

After 43 years in the workforce, I'll be retiring from full-time work at Christmas of this year. My odyssey started at a potash mine in Saskatchewan and ended at a tech company in Newfoundland & Labrador. There have been many adventures along the way; battles won and lost; and the creation of enduring friendships with some truly amazing people. I'll always be grateful for my fellow travellers who have shared the journey with me and my mentors who have been an unending source of inspiration and guidance. Although I'll have opportunities to continue contributing to the maritime profession, I'm looking forward to the next set of adventures with my family. Please join me in wishing every success to my successor at Virtual Marine, Dawn Patten.  Dawn is an exceptional leader who will continue to grow the Training Division and bring our revolutionary training to an ever-expanding circle within the maritime industry.
