  • 🌟 Work hardly seems like work when you’re in paradise! 🌟 Let’s spotlight another project with #WomenAtMcElhanney. In 2023, McElhanney conducted an impact assessment of the stunning Emerald Lake Lodge in BC. Carolyn Wright, RTAg, served as both Project Manager and Environmental Lead, while Karen S., PEng, took on the role of Water / Wastewater Engineer. The project scope included a review of the existing water and wastewater treatment plants and associated systems, and assessing their environmental impact along with a comprehensive report detailing suggested improvements.  Way to go, Carolyn and Karen! 🌿💧🏞️ #WomenInEngineering #TeamMcElhanney #ImpactAssessment #EnvironmentalEngineering #WomenInSTEM

🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that McElhanney’s work on the Highway 3:02 and Highway 40:06 Rehabilitation Project has been recognized with the 2024 ITE Southern Alberta Project of the Year Award! 🎉 Spanning 32.7km through the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, this corridor is a critical link for the movement of goods, services, and motorists in the region. This transformative project upgraded Alberta’s southernmost east-west corridor to improve safety, efficiency, and traffic flow. Through our team’s innovative engineering solutions and proactive planning, this vital route now better serves both commuters and commercial traffic, while strengthening the region's economy. A huge thank you to the ITE Southern Alberta Section for hosting such a fantastic event and celebrating the power of transformative transportation projects in the places we call home. • In today’s #WomenAtMcElhanney project highlight: the Vancouver Wharves Terminal! Pictured is Anna Vu, EIT, who conducted hydrostatic testing for the on-site water distribution system. Anna evaluated the condition of watermains and valve infrastructure by gathering and monitoring pressure readings to detect any signs of leakage or bypassing. Anna also collaborated with the contractor to ensure the testing procedures met industry standards for this project. Way to go, Anna! 💪💧🔍 #WomenInEngineering #TeamMcElhanney #HydrostaticTesting #EngineeringExcellence #WomenInSTEM

  • As we near the grand finale of our #McElhanney internal awards campaign, we’re proud to celebrate this year’s R.A. Brocklebank Award winners: Ryan Blommaert and his team—Jeff Thompson, Nicholas Madarash, and Richard Hatfield—from our Edmonton, AB office! This prestigious award recognizes employees who have made exceptional contributions to the growth and success of our company. Ryan (Branch Manager), Jeff (Division Manager, Facilities), Nick (Division Manager, Regulatory), and Richard (Division Manager, Geomatics Construction) have made an incredible impact by adapting to Alberta's evolving surveying market. Ryan and his team adapted to changing industry dynamics by rethinking their approach. They shifted from the traditional high field-crew-to-Project Manager ratio, focusing instead on efficiency. This included keeping field staff consistently busy, streamlining billing practices, and fostering a fresh mindset across their office. The team reviewed their operations, focusing on key ways to boost profitability and improve client service. Their efforts delivered impressive results, while demonstrating an ongoing commitment to operational efficiency and client satisfaction. Congratulations to Ryan, Jeff, Nick, and Richard on this outstanding achievement! 👏 #McElhanneyAwards #ProfessionalDevelopment

  • Today, we remember December 6th as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day is observed to remember and acknowledge the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, where 14 young women were murdered in an act of misogyny. It is also known as White Ribbon Day, as white ribbons are worn as a symbol of commitment to ending violence against women in Canada, and to remember the victims of the massacre. Canadians are encouraged to observe a minute of silence, reflect on what can be done to create a more equitable and just world, and take action against gender-based violence. We encourage you to take action by listening to women’s stories, speaking up when something wrong is said or done, and researching how you may have benefited from a system that has caused harm to women.    This year, our Women at McElhanney (WAM) committee is raising awareness by distributing white ribbons to all our branches. We have encouraged our staff to wear these ribbons and spark further conversations about ending violence against women.   Take a moment to remember and learn more at https://lnkd.in/gR6FeRiz or https://www.whiteribbon.ca

We are delighted to share that the BCIT Tall Timber Student Housing project was awarded Outstanding Structure (in the New Buildings: $30 million to $80 Million category) at the NCSEA 2024 SEE Awards. The SEE Awards took place early November during the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in Las Vegas, NV. During the summit, Fast + Epp Associate, Jamie Pobre Sullivan delivered a presentation on this 12-storey mass timber structure, showcasing how it's CLT point-supported design - consisting of mass timber (CLT) floors supported on steel HSS columns - met the sustainability and architectural demands of the project. We are immensely proud to be contributing to the next generation of tall timber, and grateful for all our collaborators, whose shared vision is driving innovation in our industry. Thank you NCSEA for the recognition! To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/grzSBTkG British Columbia Institute of Technology | Perkins&Will | Ledcor | Introba | WSP in Canada | Hapa Collaborative | McElhanney | GHL Consultants Ltd | RDH Building Science | Flynn Group of Companies Construction images by Andrew Latreille | Render courtesy of Perkins&Will #StructuralDesign #StructuralEngineering #MassTimber #MassTimberConstruction #SEEAwards #NCSEA

  • 🌟 Last month, #McElhanney sponsored the Girls & STEAM Summit at Science World, empowering 300 girls with hands-on Science, technology, engineering, art and design, and mathematics activities! Huge thanks to our amazing team! 💡✨ We were thrilled to support an event that brought girls, aged 12-14, together for a day filled with empowering workshops and activities designed to spark their passion for science and engineering. A big shoutout to our amazing representatives: Azadeh Koohzare, Ph.D., PEng, Claire Buxton, Nohemi G. Espinoza Martinez, Punya Arora, Salima Akbari, Syeda Narmeen Zehra, and Angel Wong, who showcased the incredible opportunities within STEAM. At our showcase booth, we introduced attendees to surveying with hands-on experience using a multi-station. We also hosted a quiz game where participants could test their knowledge of traffic, transportation, water and wastewater engineering, surveying, geospatial, and mapping for a chance to win some swag! A heartfelt thank you to the Women at McElhanney (WAM) committee and all the volunteers who dedicated their Saturday to inspire the next generation of innovators. And a special thanks to Science World for creating such a fantastic platform for girls to explore STEAM fields! #GirlsInSTEAM #McElhanneyCares
