We’re continuing to build new homes in Toronto’s core. Today we announced the beginning of construction at 35 Bellevue Ave. This property, previously a City-owned parking lot, will include approximately 78 rent-geared-to-income homes. The City has selected Kensington Market Community Land Trust in partnership with St Clare’s Multifaith Housing Society as 35 Bellevue Ave.’s operators. These future homes will contribute to the creation of non-market homes, increasing affordable rental housing stock in Toronto. While providing safe, affordable, and independent living spaces, these projects also offer people homes with supports to maintain their health, wellbeing, and housing stability. Today, Mayor Olivia Chow and Toronto City Council celebrated the incredible teamwork of City staff, agencies and partners who ensured Taylor Swift’s six sold-out Toronto shows ran as smoothly and ‘swiftly’ as possible for residents and visitors. This monumental effort in partnership with Rogers Centre showcased collaboration, flexibility and a shared commitment to creating a positive experience during Toronto’s Version of the Eras Tour. Beyond operational excellence, the tour left an incredible legacy: 🎵 $282M in estimated economic impact 🎵 $216,000 donated to Daily Bread Food Bank from the Taylor Swift Way street sign auctions, with thanks to our partners at Rogers Communications for their generosity. Congratulations, everyone. You truly showed that Toronto’s Era was one of the best.

Today, City staff shared the outcomes of the call for applications for the Purpose-Built Rental Housing Incentives stream, a transformative initiative that will unlock thousands of much-needed rental homes across Toronto. 🏠 We received 75 applications, representing over 32,600 rental homes. This positive response demonstrates the housing sector’s readiness to build, with the support of government incentives. 📈 Here’s what’s been achieved so far: ✅ 17 applications approved across 12 wards ✅ Unlocked more than 7,100 net new rental homes, including over: 6,100 net new purpose-built rental homes 1,000 net new affordable rental homes The City is leading the way, but to scale up solutions and unlock 24,450 more homes in the next phase, we need strong partnerships with all levels of government, including the Province’s support through a Build More Homes Rebate.
