We're thrilled to welcome Ramy Abdulzaher as a new connector in the #AmalUniteEmpower connector program. Ramy, an entrepreneur and business master’s student at Memorial University School of Graduate Studies, co-founded Bonocle, an award-winning startup that developed a #braille education platform. This innovative technology empowers blind children and adults to enhance their braille skills and thrive. Ramy, a newcomer in Canada, has quickly integrated into the local entrepreneurship ecosystem starting with his work term at Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship to becoming an enterprise company at Genesis. He was also recently published with the article “Accessibility of Entrepreneurship Training Programs for Individuals with Disabilities: A Literature Review”. As a connector, Ramy is dedicated to continuing his social mission and supporting the growth of Newfoundland and Labrador’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Foundations for Success as a Newcomer As a newcomer, building a life in a new country comes with excitement, challenges, and sometimes self-doubt. In my role at Amal Unite & Empower, I’ve seen firsthand how ⚡️MINDSET ⚡️plays a crucial role in shaping success. Here are some thoughts to consider: ⚡️You Are Not Inferior Your experiences, skills, and perspectives are valuable. Embrace your uniqueness—it’s your greatest strength! ⚡️Shift from “I’m Yet to Arrive” to “I Belong” You’re not starting from zero. The journey you’ve taken so far counts. Consider your transferable skills and leverage on them. Believe you deserve opportunities just as much as anyone else. ⚡️Aim for Meaningful Work Don’t settle for less because of fear or doubt. With the right resources, connections, and persistence, you can secure roles that align with your goals and aspirations. ⚡️ Embrace Growth Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow. Focus on what you can control: building skills, networking, and staying positive. ⚡️Seek Support You’re not alone. Organizations like Amal Unite & Empower and others are here to guide you, connect you to resources, and help you succeed. 💡 Remember, mindset is the foundation to succeed as a Newcomer #AmalUniteandEmpower

Thanks for reminding us how easy it is to be more inclusive!
Did you know you can start making the internet more accessible today? Here's how: When you post or upload an image on LinkedIn, social media, or many other web tools, you can add alt-text descriptions. Alt text is image descriptions that utilize text-to-speech tools and will describe the content of the picture. It will read the description of the image you included to the user. For someone who has low vision or is blind, the descriptions are necessary to consume content in its full capacity. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so why not say a thousand more with alt text? The best thing about it is, you control the meaning you want to express by adjusting the level of detail in your descriptions. Check out the step-by-step guide in the pictures to help you get started. Bonus: Including alt text can boost your post or website SEO and improve reach on social media. Algorithms favor accessible content! Do you already use Alt text? Let's make the internet more accessible, one image at a time. #Accessibility #Inclusion #AltText #Blindness

Last Friday, we gathered for a special rock painting session for our Friendship Café, where creativity flowed as freely as the conversations. We loved seeing the diversity of designs and the personal stories each painted rock represented. It was a moment to inspire and be inspired by the creativity around us. We look forward to more creative gatherings like this in the future! #AmalUniteEmpower #FriendshipCafe #CommunityArtNL
