An honour to be learning and servicing on the Board of Resilient Cities Network. Thank you Lauren Sorkin and team for the faith, and fellow Board of Directors for the conversations, insights and sharing. The Resilient Cities Network is an organisation that I’ve looked up to for years, especially as an urbanite growing up and living in tropical Singapore. My quote for this post is inspired by the Intergenerational convening on the future of cities event by TED Countdown, UN Climate Change and Patricelli Center that I attended at New York Climate Week. There are so many city users, with a lot of them being young people living working playing in cities but also with high ambitions on how climate-ready cities can be. It requires understanding and often times behavior changes that we have to be prepared for too. This ties in with my interests in climate communications. I have much to learn but I’m also excited to be able to share those perspectives in the coming months. An honour to do this alongside Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Jo da Silva DBE, Gareth Morgan, Vito G. Dellerba, CFA, Susan Aitken, Daniel Stander, Eduardo Paes, Niels Holm-Nielsen. Big thanks also to Joanne Baker Lynette Lim and more for getting this together.
Delighted to welcome these remarkable individuals to the R-Cities Board of Directors—a group of experts in their own fields bringing diverse perspectives and committed to transforming cities and creating meaningful impact for communities through collaboration and action. From youth advocates to private sector leaders, our new board members embody inclusion, innovation, and a shared commitment to building a more just and resilient future. 💡 Meet our new Board Members: Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif: The former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, the first female mayor of Kuala Lumpur and a professional town planner with a career dedicated to advocating and delivering impact for cities as engines of change. Gareth Morgan: Executive Director of Future Planning and Resilience for Cape Town and a former Chief Resilience Officer, driving transformative action on the frontlines of urban resilience. Jo da Silva DBE: Creator of the City Resilience Framework and a globally recognized expert in engineering and resilience, she has spent decades pioneering innovative solutions to complex urban challenges and is a passionate advocate for inclusive, climate-resilient development. Vito G. Dellerba, CFA: Managing Director, Sustainability, at CDPQ, with nearly 20 years of fixed income experience, he is an expert in establishing and implementing value creation action plans to transform the various sustainability themes into business opportunities. Qiyun Woo: Singaporean climate communicator and founder of The Weird and Wild, using compelling visuals and accessible content to inspire and educate communities, especially young people, about climate resilience. They join an amazing line up of board members made up of Councillor Susan Aitken, Daniel Stander, Mayor Eduardo Paes and Niels Holm-Nielsen. This dynamic board, nominated by our member cities worldwide, reflects the diverse perspectives and expertise they need as they navigate multiple shocks and stresses.
