Here's a few reasons why BrightLife Kids is an integral part of California’s initiative to meet the needs of young people, especially those who face the greatest systemic barriers to wellness: 🧡 The need for trusted, culturally informed and responsive mental health tools for kids and caregivers who identify as part of BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ communities is unique — and for many, that need goes unmet. 🧡 The families we support experience more stress (particularly financial stress) than other coaching populations. 🧡 When kids struggle, so do parents — caregiver mental health declines when they are concerned about their child. And when parents struggle, the whole family is impacted. 🧡 Without access to this kind of early intervention, families are forced to wait for help until they’re in crisis, when expensive emergency care is the only option. We are improving access to early intervention mental health care, especially in rural, remote, and underserved areas where traditional services are often limited or non-existent. BrightLife Kids members meet with their coaches for 1:1 live video sessions, send questions through our secure chat feature, read articles in our digital library, and attend our monthly webinars. And our Community Engagement team attends events in multiple counties each month, meeting face-to-face with hundreds of new families to explain what we do and how we can help their families manage big emotions, navigate behavioral challenges, and build skills they can all use for a lifetime. Behind the scenes, they’re meeting with school districts, superintendents, and organizations to add even more school, health, and community groups to our affiliate network. Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Live Well Advance Summit, teamed up with Soluna. The author of “The Anxious Generation,” Johnathan Haidt was a keynote speaker so there were about 2,000 attendees. We had a very busy day speaking to 450 attendees. It was great seeing and reconnecting with already established partners and acquiring about 50 new partners. It was a long day but well worth it.

Less than a year ago, we launched BrightLife Kids — a program developed alongside the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to provide critical mental health support to California families. Today, we’re delighted to reflect on the impact we've made together, reaching tens of thousands of kids and caregivers across the state. BrightLife Kids ensures all families with children ages 0–12 – regardless of income or insurance – have free, confidential access to high-quality behavioral healthcare. All they need is a California zip code. We’re reaching families in rural counties, overcoming barriers to bring expert care where it’s most needed. Who we’re helping: =>53% of BrightLife Kids families live in underserved communities =>Of families in coaching, 80% identify as BIPOC =>Our diverse team offers bilingual coaching in English, Spanish, and 17 other languages via live interpreters. Why this matters: California’s youth face unique challenges, especially in BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and financially stressed communities. By providing trusted, culturally responsive mental health tools, we’re supporting not only kids but their caregivers, strengthening entire families. We’re immensely grateful for the support from the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative and the California Department of Health Care Services. And this is only the beginning! We’re here to make sure all families have access to mental healthcare, exactly when and where they need it. Read more about our journey to accessible behavioral healthcare:

What a full circle moment! From zoom meetings to community impact..... Nicole Curreri, MPH, CHES and I were in the same virtual cohort at The George Washington University and even collaborated on group projects together. Two years later, we finally got to meet in real life! I had the opportunity to share BrightLife Kids with her population health team at Partnership HealthPlan of California.

We are incredibly grateful for our partners 🧡 like the San Diego County Office of Education and many others who champion BrightLife Kids. Here's what one of our partners had to say after receiving one of our affirmation teller activities: "Thank you so much! This is great! My colleague and I facilitate a Military Kids United Club in a few of the schools we work with and it’s been such a great experience for these kids to form peer-to-peer connections, develop resiliency skills, and share their own experiences with what it’s like being a military-connected kid. This activity is a great way to start the conversation on how to deal with some of those big feelings they could possibly have or have already experienced when they transition from place to place with their family. Thank you again for your kindness and ordering this and sending this to us! It will be put to great use and we are so thankful!" - MCRD/WRR, School Liaison
