57 million tons of office furniture is trashed each year. NORNORM is on a mission to fix that. Most office spaces have 1 thing in common: they buy tons of furniture. But when it's time to move, change, or when it breaks, it all goes to waste. With NORNORM, you don't buy office furniture. You subscribe to it! Suddenly, all the incentives change: Instead of quantity, you get quality. Instead of end of life, you get end of-use. The best thing? This circular business model is: ✅ scalable ✅ sustainable ✅ cost competitive Tired of waste? Share this video further for a greener workplace! #startups #circulareconomy #sustainability
Vojtech Vosecky I was a director of a company that led this concept from 2001. We were paid by business sq metres and were required to maintain all FF&E as fit for purpose across an entire public sector department in the UK (around 200,000 people at that time). It worked well - we repaired and renovated a lot of office furniture. Sadly the concept never translated to the private sector and sadly accountancy practices (i.e. balance sheet vs P&L) still holds back this concept.
Great stuff! This is a part of the real transformative power of the CE that a lot of people don’t always see or appreciate! If we move to a service model and away from ownership, we will remove a lot of the need for personal debt, which is a huge area where citizens are ripped off! The banks won’t like it, but it will lead to a much more responsive economy, linked to social policy. Allied to EPR/ESG/Etc., it also has the potential to offer a different social contract with the commons and dial down our rampant consumption and wastefulness!
And what happens to the furniture, when it is no longer needed, but doesn't look appealing for new users or gets broken?
We have enough produced furniture in the world - we need to use what we already have and circulate, uppcycle and refurbish it. Not produce new items and throw away the old ones. 🙏🏼✊🏼
nice idea, I work from home, my chair was rescued from a workspace that was disposing of it and my desk is my only purchase and will last, in fact I don't ever plan on buyong another one but I suppose thats a different approach
