The launch of GPS III SV07 marked a first for USSF, SpOC, and Mission Delta 31. GPS III SV06 demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness by reducing the typical six-month SV pre-launch processing timeline to approximately three months.

The rigor needed to get from good idea to actually mitigating threats with warfighter capability is crucial to space power— there is not an easy fix and the equation includes acquisition/ requirements generation/ science and technology and a long term strategy— hard choices impacting greater power competition — Forward..

The Space Development Agency (SDA) is advancing its Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) with plans for Tranche 3 of its data transport satellite constellation. This new phase aims to expand beyond the current Link 16 tactical data link, which has been a primary focus in earlier tranches, and explore additional waveforms for tactical satellite communications. SDA Director Derek Tournear highlighted during the annual Space Symposium that while some Link 16 capabilities will be maintained for resilience, the focus for Tranche 3 will shift towards other tactical data links, particularly within the S-band, to enhance the architecture's overall effectiveness in missile warning, tracking, and satellite communications. The United States Space Force took a step towards improving industry collaboration with the release of its Commercial Space Strategy last week. The strategy offers a general overview of Space Force priorities, and also highlights criteria that will be used in evaluating industry proposals for technology solutions going forward. USSF Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman stated that the strategy is “not a panacea” for all critical industry questions, but is instead a useful roadmap that identifies eight areas the Space Force will look to integrate commercial space solutions. Interesting paragraph.... "The first CCS Block 10.0 version was initially deployed in 2004 with three systems. Its upgraded version, Block 10.1, included seven systems. Initially, 16 units of Block 10.2 were planned, but it appears the order was doubled." Doubling the numbers of ground based satellite jammers is a welcome thing if the reporting is true. However, more will be needed to defend terrestrial targets from all the various spacecraft overhead from China, Russia and others. One notable omission.... currently, the majority (60%) of these CCS systems are operated by the National Guard. Now they want to double the systems procured while cutting personnel and squadrons....all while the Space Force has caps on personnel preventing growth! Space National Guard would aid a rapid deployment of new units and equipment and not require any new personnel in the Space Force. Quite a bit of savings that could be used for other sorely needed things like offensive weapons for deterrence and warfighting in and from space. This has resulted in a push within the defense and intelligence communities to design smaller, cheaper, and more expendable satellites 🛰 RSA's Quantum Program Manager, Dr. Elliott Hastings, spoke during the last PocketQube Conference on employing PicoSats for #cislunar defense applications. Dr. Hastings discussed directions for future #PicoSat missions to encourage mutually beneficial collaboration between the defense industry and PicoSat providers, focusing on mission concepts, use cases, and engineering challenges in defense-relevant technologies, including GPS-denied navigation and secure communications. The best defense is often a strong offense, right? I'm excited to see that the term "counterspace" is becoming more widely recognized and openly discussed in today's climate. It’s no secret that our adversaries are actively preparing to take disruptive actions in space, threatening not only our freedom in space but also the technologies that power our daily lives. They're building sophisticated, interconnected "kill webs" that span across all domains, making space security more critical than ever. However, without the necessary space domain awareness and integrated command and control, our efforts in counterspace will be ineffective. While we still have significant work to do in protecting and defending the space domain, the ongoing discussions across Services and with our Allies are a vital step in the right direction.
