Peter Harrison Foundation - Opportunities through Sport (UK) The Trustees wish to support sporting activity or projects which provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and to develop other personal and life skills. Grants will often be “one off” grants for capital projects. We will, however, also consider revenue funding for a new project or if funding is key to the continuing success or survival of an established project. In partnership with the University of Southampton, we have delivered purpose-driven projects that support its mission to provide world-class education, groundbreaking research, and an outstanding student experience. From the Boldrewood Innovation Campus, a hub for pioneering science and life sciences research, to enhanced sports facilities at the Jubilee Sports Centre on the Highfield Campus, our work reflects a shared commitment to creating sustainable, state-of-the-art spaces that empower students, researchers, and the wider community to thrive. Across each project, we have worked to employ local people and support charities. One example is our work with Southampton Sight, a small independent charity. Two weeks consecutive, and on three occasions this year Whitefield Youth Association have managed to engage directly with over 300 children, young people and adults on a weekly basis - this was the target the charity set itself at the beginning of 2024 and it is now beginning to achieve it. The best bit WITH NO EXTERNAL FUNDING!!! We directly challenge Social Investment Business and those responsible for administering the #YouthInvestmentFund, the Football Foundation, Sport England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to show us any project with the size of our Charity and running costs that is delivering impact of this level excluding sports clubs with no external grant funding support. It is time to hold all these organisations to account that administer this funding in deprived areas but minimal if anything changes. Reports full of waffle but no real hardline facts to confuse the average person on the street, big salaries being paid with large management costs - prove me otherwise? The #YouthInvestmentFund provided in the region of £30 - £50 million pounds to one entity under the previous government - an entity which relies upon grant funding to survive - not exactly sustainable.

💡 Innovating to Support Disadvantaged Students 💡 Each year, The Big Step looks carefully and creatively for ways to help schools support disadvantaged children to attend our transition programme. This past summer, thanks to additional funding, over 350 children entitled to free school meals (FSM) attended The Big Step completely free of charge. 🌟 For 2025, we’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with GoodHub.com. GoodHub creates bespoke school-specific fundraising pages, allowing schools to raise sponsorship from their existing suppliers. These funds can be used to subsidise or fully cover the costs for disadvantaged students to attend The Big Step. Schools can also use the funds raised through GoodHub for other important projects or initiatives, making this a truly versatile solution. Happy Friday! My students' #neurodiversity project is well under way, and the monitoring and controlling phase is in full force! Various issues have arisen, but we have developed mitigation strategies to target these concerns. Team members are learning to work seamlessly with one another, and their #emotionalintelligence has increased significantly as a result. Check out what the team has accomplished: -The student completed the presentation that will be delivered at the Board of Education meeting. -Morning and afternoon announcements are being made to the school population to advertise the event. Team members substitute for one another during absences in order to ensure that these tasks are carried out. -114 people have signed up for the event thus far! -Numerous participants have donated additional funds due to their ties to the cause. -The students are utilizing the spreadsheet to monitor which participants have paid to sign up versus those who still owe money. The students will follow up with those who have not yet paid over course of the next week. -The volleyball net has been delivered to the correct campus. However, due to the size of the net, the team plans on ordering an additional net to accommodate the amount of participants. -The weather for the event date has been monitored, and there does not appear to be any rain in the forecast thus far! Future steps that will be taken include the following: -Continuing to monitor scope creep -Assigning participants to teams -Ensuring that the parameters are set for the volleyball games -Checking in regarding progress towards goals -Expressing our gratitude to those who have helped us achieve our goals The fundraiser will take place in two weeks!
