We're excited to highlight our Be Well ERG (Employee Resource Group) for their hard work and dedication to wellness throughout the year. Last month, they hosted our No Shave November initiative which raised awareness and support for cancer patients and their families. In August, they celebrated Wellness Month by hosting a contest for creative submissions that spoke to our 4 pillars of wellness. We received beautiful artwork, helpful infographics, jaw-dropping photography, and much more!

The first time I experienced the power of COMMUNITY, I was five years old. My mom had a major surgery and for 6 weeks, she was unable to go up and down the stairs of our home. She was ordered to stay in bed and recover. After one day of my dad attempting to braid my hair, Mrs. Dean, my mom's good friend, took her daily walk down the street with a comb and brush in her hand. She gave me a reprieve from my dad's horrendously uneven part down the middle of my head and his clunky hands that struggled to twist the delicate strands of my hair. Mrs. Dean never forgot to tie my two ribbons at the top of my signature style of two braids. Every night, our friends and neighbors would drop off a homemade dinner for the five of us - my parents and three children. The entire community had created a schedule to ensure that my dad's fabulous eggs and bacon, were not the only thing on the calendar three times a day. It was the first time of many, that I saw the importance of COMMUNITY, and more importantly - how women empowered each other when one of their own was not feeling 100%. So it is no wonder that COMMUNITY is a part of every program and session that I create. And here is why: 💛 A community helps you understand that you are not alone in your journey OR in your past. 💛 A community is a built-in network that inspires you to keep going or to know when it is time to recharge. 💛 A community answers questions, provides guidance, and gives you the blueprint to things and people you may not know. And most of all: 💛 A community values empowerment over judgment and competition. If you have benefited from the power of community, feel free to share below.

📣 📣 ACTIPHONS NEW WEBSITE NOW LIVE 📣 📣 https://actiphons.com After many months of hard work, early mornings, late nights and lots and lots of research we are very pleased and proud to announce our BRAND NEW Actiphons website is now LIVE. Our mission from the start has always been simple..... 'To engage and inspire children to READ by using the POWER OF SPORT'. The innovation came from our children's love of sports and reading so we decided to mix the two together to create Actiphons 'ACTIVE PHONICS' which helps children learn their phonics through playing fun sports and physical activities. As we are very big on 'FAMILY' this project is no different, with all our children helping out from narrating our reading books, to appearing in our YouTube videos to trialing resources at home. Teamwork has definitely been key along the way with a number of other people and organisations too always on hand to help out and advise. From Penguin, Manchester United, Michael Wilson, David Butterworth from Manninvest to where it all started with Complete Control's Glynn Hayward many, many years ago. With many more supporters who have helped along the way (too many to mention). Anyway enough of my waffle if you get chance please take a look at our website to see what we have been up to and what we are trying to achieve plus it would be great to get any feedback (positive or negative) as it will only help us grow and be able to provide a better resource to help strengthen the 'READING CULTURE' and more 'ACTIVE LIFESTYLES' we strive to achieve. #readingculture #powerofsport #teamwork #alwayslearning

Would you rather be unable to see or have to wear eyeglasses that embarrass you? That's the question that opened the eyes of VisionSpring founder, Jordan Kassalow, when he was volunteering in Colombia in 1987. Dr. Kassalow met Noka, a woman from a rural community who took a full day to visit their eye care outreach camp. "By U.S. standards, Noka was legally blind," wrote Jordan in his book, 'Dare to Matter.' "After examining her eyes, however, I was able to find the one pair of used eyeglasses we had that were a 100 percent match for the prescription she needed." But three days later, Noka returned because her friends and family were mocking her and Jordan understood why — the glasses he had given her were 1950's cat-eye style with rhinestones and Coke-bottle lenses. Not something she would have chosen for herself. Jordan brought this insight to the founding of VisionSpring, "[It's] the difference between what it feels like to have to take whatever someone has to give, and having the power to choose for yourself." Since Day 1, we have offered style options for eyeglasses. We proactively seek feedback, and update our designs to match what people want. By providing choice, we respect people's dignity, confidence, and identity. And by supporting our partners in adopting stylish, affordable, glasses, we can ensure that everyone has the 'Dignity of Choice.' #DignityOfChoice #SocialEntrepreneurship

As the founder of Mind the Crown, I’ve been asked why our self-care brand sells kids’ backpacks. It’s a fair question, and the answer lies in our commitment to empowerment and community impact. In 2020, after the tragic death of George Floyd, our world was shaken. Our children, especially young Black boys, were exposed to narratives that questioned their worth and made them feel invisible. It was a painful reminder that their lives mattered less to some. Then, I stumbled upon the “Amazing Black Boy” backpacks. These weren’t just ordinary bags; they were beacons of empowerment. When a little boy wears one, it’s a statement. It says, “I am amazing. My life matters.” And when he puts it on his back, it’s as if the world sees him differently—through a lens of possibility and greatness. But why backpacks? Because self-care isn’t just about face masks and meditation. It’s about nurturing our community, especially our children. When a child wears an empowering backpack, it’s an act of self-care for their spirit. And for mothers, grandmas, and aunties, it’s a way to invest in the next generation—to remind them that they are seen, valued, and cherished. So, the next time someone asks why our self-care brand sells kids’ backpacks, I’ll tell them this: It’s about more than storage space and zippers. It’s about wrapping our youth in love, resilience, and the belief that they are extraordinary. And for us women, it’s a reminder that self-care extends beyond our own well-being—it’s about lifting others up too. Let’s carry greatness on our backs. 👑 https://lnkd.in/g5NnREpA #Empowerment #SelfCare #AmazingBlackBoyBackpacks #CommunityLove #mindthecrown #backtoschool

Celebration of National Eyewear Day Campaign 6/6/2024 June 6th marks National Eyewear Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the profound impact that eyewear has on our lives. At Eye Care 4 All, this day holds a special place in our hearts as it aligns perfectly with our mission to provide glasses to children who cannot afford them. In celebration, we are launching a special campaign to provide glasses to 100 children in need. But we cannot do it alone. We need your support to reach our goal and change these children's lives. https://lnkd.in/dMQxaqQe Imagine a child struggling to see the board in class or unable to read their favorite book because they lack the eyewear they need. This is the reality for many children throughout the world. Your contribution can make a difference: Your contribution can make a difference: - $50 provides a pair of glasses to a child. - $100 provides glasses to two children. - $250 helps five children see the world clearly. - $500 supports ten children, giving them the tools they need to succeed. With heartfelt gratitude, we want to thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

Ok, one of my last posts for #americanhearthealth month (in February anyway!) ❤️ The advances in the technologies, techniques, and care for #hearthealth over the years have been truly AMAZING. There are books devoted to these topics but who's got time for that? Not homey. Here are some highlights: 1929: first right-heart catheterization by Werner Forssmann - ON HIMSELF 1940's: Ventilators: several kinds were invented as early as the 1800's, developed in the early 1900's and today's ICU ventilator was refined greatly in the 1940's. 1955: marks the routine use of heart-lung bypass machines for open heart surgery 1958: first electronic pacemaker implanted 1960: first interior thoracic artery bypass by Dr Robert Goetz @Albert Einstein Medical College in the Bronx 1967: the very first Saphenous Vein Graft bypass by Dr Rene Favoloro @ClevelandClinic 1971: first CT scan on a human 1970's: surgical glues: first manufactured in raw forms in 1940's, some use in the '50's and became widespread in the 70's. 1975+: Andreas Gruentzig pioneers catheterization-based intervention 1977: first MRI on a human Many of these technologies were pioneered by research scientists and healthcare professionals and then developed by industry. On the human side we need organizations like the #AmericanHeartAssociation to raise and direct funds for human care. The AHA helps fund lifesaving research, advocate for healthier communities, improve patient care and work for equitable health for all people. Will you help me in raising awareness for #hearthealth and funds for the #AHA this month? You can help by liking, commenting, re-sharing this post, tagging your friends, or join me in fundraising (use the direct link): https://lnkd.in/ePKYfFzp
