Did you know that 1 in 3 people globally live with uncorrected poor vision? 90% of these beneficiaries live in base of pyramid communities, where there is limited access to vision care, low awareness of the importance of eye health and a lack of trained optometry professionals available to provide essential vision care. Tele-refraction offers us the opportunity to bridge these gaps, allowing urban-based optometrists to extend their expertise to rural and remote areas, providing verified vision care services without the need for beneficiaries to travel far for in-person visits. In partnership with Dr. Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital, we jointly published groundbreaking clinical research in the peer reviewed journal, PLOS ONE, confirming that tele-refraction screenings conform to the gold standards of face-to-face eye exams. Tele-refraction allows us to enhance access to vision care for underserved populations living in base of pyramid communities. We look forward to integrating this model within new and existing partnerships with optometry associations and like-minded partners across the world, accelerating existing efforts to help people around the globe ‘see more and be more’. As we observe #WorldSightDay, we invite you to read our latest annual report, a resource highlighting our commitment to advancing inclusive #EyeHealth over the past year. This report offers an in-depth look at our work, key partnerships, and the measurable outcomes we have achieved in communities in the 30 countries where we work. It showcases CBM’s commitment to advancing child eye health, resonating with this year’s World Sight Day theme under the ‘Love Your Eyes’ campaign, coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Why is this important? Through real stories, data, and reflections, we share how our efforts have driven change, particularly in creating an inclusive world where no one experiences unnecessary or preventable sight loss. CBM also remains committed to training eye doctors and healthcare personnel in areas with limited resources, providing scholarships for advanced studies in eye care, and offering special training to enhance their skills. Whether you're a partner, donor, or supporter, this report offers valuable insights into how your contributions helped us make a difference. We invite you to explore the impact and see what lies ahead in our mission to provide accessible, affordable and available eye care. 👉 Read the full report at the link in the comments section Babar Qureshi Joy Koech Beatrice Theuri #WorldSightDay #LoveYourEyes #LowVision #ChildHealth #Collaboration #Partnership

As we celebrate Healthy Vision Month this May, OPC is committed to promoting eye health and preventing blindness in communities worldwide. Regular eye exams are crucial for the early detection of vision problems, yet many people overlook this essential aspect of healthcare. Through our extensive outreach programs and community screenings, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of regular eye check-ups. Beyond detecting refractive errors like nearsightedness and farsightedness, these exams can identify more serious conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. In underserved regions, where access to eye care services may be limited, OPC collaborates with local healthcare providers, trains community workers, and integrates eye care into existing healthcare systems. We work to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities for healthy vision. This Healthy Vision Month, let's prioritize our eye health. Schedule your eye exam today and join OPC in our mission to prevent avoidable blindness and promote a world where everyone can see clearly. https://bit.ly/42dFIXq #HealthyVisionMonth #EyeHealth #PreventBlindness

Before we met, my wife suffered for years without access to glasses in the north of Brazil. Chronic headaches lead to what economists would call "a major loss to productivity" and what she experienced as a daily obstacle to work and education. Beyond experiences like my wife's, the ability to read and see clearly is so important, especially for those aging and those in poverty two already vulnerable groups. Among other things, poor vision can be a barrier to proper access to services, if the person who needs the services can't read materials to make them aware, or the details. embarrassment at needing to ask for help can because they can't read can keep someone from accessing resources available to them. Literacy is such a powerful tool for the elimination of poverty, but for many the theoretical ability to read is limited by a lack of access to glasses they can afford. I love seeing organizations like RestoringVision address these important issues that contribute to cycles of poverty. Keep up the amazing work Pelin Munis, Ph.D. and everyone at RestoringVision !

🌟 Exciting news alert! I am thrilled to announce a major milestone for RestoringVision and our sector. I had the opportunity to co-author an important article along with our VP of Global Programs and Impact Mark Lorey, and Jordan Kassalow, founder of VisionSpring and EYElliance. The article is now live in the Community Eye Health Journal (CEHJ), shedding light on the urgent need to address presbyopia. CEHJ is a pinnacle publication in our sector, and having our work featured is a testament to our global impact. Our article underscores key points we advocate for, emphasizing that presbyopia is not just a vision issue but a gateway to broader eye health and socioeconomic improvement. With 90% of those affected by uncorrected presbyopia residing in low and middle-income countries, our article highlights the critical need for accessible solutions. By providing affordable reading spectacles, we can uplift millions out of poverty and enhance their quality of life. Join us in spreading the word and partnering to deliver proven models that accelerate solutions to the presbyopia crisis. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of millions worldwide. We also want to extend our gratitude to Elmien Wolvaardt, Editor-in-Chief: Community Eye Health Journal, International Centre for Eye Health for her valuable partnership and insights. Today is #WorldSightDay 💝and we celebrate this day with high appreciation for all people for whom Sight is not a given and who still have to manage their lives. We show respect to all those who work every day to improve eye health around the world and to bring light back into the darkness of so many people with initiatives, solutions and innovations. 🙏 This year, #WorldSightDay 💝 is dedicated to the many children and young people around the world for which access to eye health is often not a given. Here are a few facts: -450 million children have a sight condition the requires treatment, with many unable to access affordable, available eye care. -Children in low-and-middle income countries with vision loss are 2-5x less likely to be in school. -Every day, young people miss out on learning and social opportunities because of a vision issue that could be treated, corrected and often cured. Source: https://lnkd.in/eNGA4Dz3 Too often we forget that the decline in eye health and the risk of going blind 🫣 from #cataracts, for example, doesn't just affect older people, but the young as well. Watch our video 🎥 of Susan. An impressive elderly lady who tells us what it really means to gradually lose sight of the world and how moving the path back to the light looks. 🌈 What must it be like for the many children in the world with eye problems, whose chances and opportunities in life often depend only on sight?! 😢 The #Medicel team works with great passion and motivation to make a global contribution to better eye health. Every day we do this again and again. Because life- stories like these show us the real value of our work.🌞 #LoveYourEyes #worldsightday #iapb #Medicel #cataract #IOL #Halma www.medicel.com

This Children’s Day, let’s raise awareness about an often overlooked condition that can impact kids' vision—𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚, 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐬 “𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐲 𝐞𝐲𝐞.” This condition can significantly affect a child's vision if not detected and treated early. What is Amblyopia? 𝘈𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘺𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘢 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴. Treatment often involves: -Blurring the vision of the stronger eye to encourage use of the weaker one -Patching the better eye -Computer-based exercises to improve binocular vision Healthy vision is essential for every child's growth and learning.
