🎬✨ From Screen to Strategy: Management Lessons from The Internship ✨🎬 Had the incredible opportunity to explore management concepts through the lens of the movie The Internship! Using my presentation, "Aligning Film Insights with Essential Management Skills," I connected the film’s narrative to critical aspects of leadership, adaptability, teamwork, and innovation. Here’s a sneak peek of what I shared: 🌟 Adaptability: The transition from traditional sales roles to mastering cutting-edge tech skills. 🌟 Teamwork: Overcoming generational differences to highlight the strength of diverse teams. 🌟 Leadership: Inspiring without authority, through listening, guiding, and leading by example. 🌟 Innovation: Tackling challenges with creative problem-solving and brainstorming. 🌟 Resilience: Navigating workload, feedback, and performance to achieve growth. A huge thanks to Miss Rumani Bhandari ma'am for providing this enriching opportunity and platform to showcase my perspective. 🙏 The session was a great reminder that lessons in adaptability and innovation aren’t confined to classrooms or boardrooms—they can come from anywhere, even the movies. 🎥 #ManagementLessons #Leadership #MBAJourney #TheInternship #Teamwork #Innovation #Adaptability #Resilience Let me know your thoughts, and feel free to share how movies or books have inspired your management journey! 🚀

"Managers Are the Main Reason Internship Programs Fail: Here’s Why" Internship programs often fall short not because of the interns but because of how they're managed. Here’s why relying on traditional management approaches can lead to failure — and what to do instead: 1. Task-Oriented vs. People-Oriented Managers who focus solely on task completion miss the opportunity to nurture interns’ growth. Without guidance on the why and how behind tasks, interns often feel undervalued, disengaged, and even lost. Leaders, by contrast, create a sense of purpose that keeps interns motivated and aligned with the organization’s goals. 2. Lack of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Managers who lack EQ skills may struggle to connect with interns on a personal level. Without empathy, self-awareness, and good communication, managers may fail to understand interns' unique challenges or emotions, leading to miscommunication, disengagement, and a negative intern experience. 3. Failure to Encourage Growth and Learning Managers often assign repetitive tasks, thinking they’ll build experience, but this can make interns feel stagnant. Leaders, however, prioritize growth by offering diverse, challenging opportunities that foster learning, adaptability, and critical thinking. 4. Absence of Mentorship Internship programs thrive on mentorship, not just management. Managers who focus only on output may neglect to mentor interns, missing the chance to develop them into skilled, confident professionals. Leaders mentor their interns, guiding them in problem-solving and career development. 5. Lack of a Long-Term Vision When managers view interns as temporary help rather than future talent, it limits the program’s potential. Leaders, on the other hand, see interns as potential future hires and invest in developing their skills, setting both the intern and the organization up for long-term success. In summary: If your internship program isn’t thriving, it may be because it’s managed, not led. Shifting from a managerial to a leadership mindset — with a focus on purpose, EQ, mentorship, and growth — is the key to a successful, sustainable internship program. True story. Yesterday an ag friend relayed a story about an intern he had been mentoring and coaching. As in many internships, this intern was given a project to complete and present to the management team at the conclusion of the internship. After the presentation it was good luck and goodbye. No feedback, on anything. Although the intern felt the experience was a good one, they expressed major concerns about joining this team. This is what I mean when I say having a program isn't enough. It's how you manage it that matters. Your program could actually be costing you talent and you not even realize it. Additionally, and this goes for everyone, who you have in leadership matters! Leaders must be connected. If turnover is an issue, start here. When leaders connect emotionally, it leads to trust, trust leads to commitment, commitment leads to productivity, productivity leads to success. We can and must do better to keep the best and brightest in Ag!!!

🌟 Reflecting on my journey through college internships, I've gleaned invaluable insights into leadership. Here are some guiding principles that have shaped my approach: ⭐️ 𝐁𝐞 𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥! Authenticity fosters connection, especially with interns navigating the corporate world for the first time. Facilitate their growth by sharing experiences and insights. ⭐️ 𝐁𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦! While the workplace isn't a family, cultivating genuine friendships with your team members enhances collaboration and mutual respect. ⭐️ 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩! Admitting mistakes and demonstrating strong work ethics sets the tone for your team. Micromanagement rarely yields results. ⭐️ 𝐁𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮! Surround yourself with talent from diverse backgrounds, fostering innovation and excellence. ⭐️ 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬! Promote a culture of psychological safety where every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute. ⭐️ 𝐍𝐨 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚, 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠! Respect your team's time by ensuring meetings are purposeful and engaging, leveraging efficient communication channels like voice notes when appropriate. ⭐️ 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠! Inspire excitement and motivation by continuously innovating and implementing fresh strategies aligned with organizational goals. Creating a sense of belonging and showing appreciation for your team's efforts are essential ingredients for success. Grateful for the journey and the lessons learned! #leadership #internships #college #linkedincommunity #socialnetworking #management #shibusaaho 🚀👔🎓

Managers- 100% of your interns have a secret right now. It's a secret pain. A worry. It's easy to fix. Now, and throughout summer, your interns are anxious about whether to ask about the prospect for full-time employment after graduation. Even the most engaged, competent, and assertive interns struggle with the dilemma of whether to initiate the discussion for fear of appearing too aggressive. "Am I being too pushy? When are decisions made? Am I even doing a good enough job? Will it anger the boss or ruin my chances if I ask?" It is easy for even the best and most empathetic managers to be unaware because it has been so long since many of us were in those shoes. Help them out. Initiate. Shed light on the process, timing, and expectations. If business conditions are unclear or unstable, all the more reason to be transparent about expectations. Don't delay. If you're an outlier who covers all of this on day 1, then feel free to pat yourself on the back. Interns- This is a very common dilemma. Your best course of action depends heavily on your personal situation. #management #productmanagement #internship #leadership #empathy
